What would you do if you owned the Anderson Estate?

I'd do it in the same vein; convert as closely as possible to how it appeared outside and inside as it did in the series. It's been a long time dream of mine to own that property. I can't imagine sitting down there in the guesthouse after it's remodelled and daydream about all of the events that happened down there during the series. The tidal pool would be my morning swim ritual. I'd have a Ferrari but to be honest my Z28 would be my DD. Oh man, one can dream...
I'd probably do the same as others mentioned - fix up the place to match what appeared in the show - 80s decor and all.
The guest house I always thought was weird. Go up the stairs to the door and then go back down stairs once inside. I think that was the way to best use the space under the stairs for the closet.
I'd use that other house near the entrance as a gift shop.

Hi, I am brand new here, but have been a fan of Magnum, P.I. since I was a child. It has always been my dream to own the Anderson Estate. I would absolutely love to live on Oahu and come home to that wonderful property and home every day.
If I owned it, I would definitely want to be a multi-millionare so I could fix the place up to look as good as it did on the show. I would try and fix the boathouse to where it would be a guesthouse, just like on the show.
I would also want the beach to be private so I could go out and swim in the tidal pool in peace.
I have never liked the dirt road, so I would have that paved.

I would live there of course! with my dad in the main house (behaviour wise, he is Higgins...upper middle class Englishman who contrasts wildly with his North American raised son) and me in my replica guet house. I imagine Zeus and Apollo would be played by English Springer spaniels though. With little change left in my pocket, I imagine my 308 GTB would have to end up a Fiero replica.

Jody,
Sorry, you probably can't make the beach private -- all beaches in Hawaii are public usage, by law. But you'd be sharing it mostly with Magnum, P.I., fans, so that wouldn't be so bad, would it? I think that's mostly who goes there on our fan pilgrimages.
And instead of paving the driveway, you might just want to have it maintained properly, as it looked in the Hawaii Five-O shows when the estate was used. It looked fine then. Just got run down, I guess, when Thomas Magnum kept running over the trimmed edges!!
Jonny, okay, the springer spaniels can be there, but let them at least romp with some Dobermann puppies to grow up with so some Dobies are at least friendly occupants of the property!

Ha ha...yes. Although I'd have to slide that past 'Higgins' aka Dad!golfmobile wrote:Jody,

OK, this is probably a silly question but would you guys renovate the main house to 2008 standards or renovate to keep it in the time era of Magnum?
It is a given that the boathouse would be made into the guest house where TM lived.
What about the gatehouse? It is a large structure. How would you use it?

Magnum era facade, modern amenities in the areas that weren't accessible to viewers of the show.
Stainless steel appliances weren't unheard of back then.
Imagine a flatscreen over Magnums fireplace!
Furniture would remain the same. I went to Hawaii a little over a year ago, and the furniture in the place I stayed was very true to that time period (yet still comfortable!)
