Saw this one for the very first time and really enjoyed it. Actually even more (I think) than the first Luther Gillis episode. The first one just had Eugene Roche but this one also has the added bonus of Sheree North as Blanche. I didn't even count on enjoying her as much as him but she was every bit as memorable as ol' Luther. Her back and forth with Higgy in the shack while they're tied up is a hoot. He keeps blasting her and she thinks he's paying her compliments. Then he agrees with her and she thinks he's disagreeing. Her stories from the past aggravate Higgy, yet he himself is the biggest offender ever in this department - telling long-winded stories that no one cares about. Plus all the other great gags - Dot Matrix, Big Sal with the frying pan, Geoffrey Lewis with his hot dog shirt, the return of Scrung-O, Higgy's karate chop, and so many great lines really put this one above the first Luther episode. This is clearly an all-out comedy episode so you can't take any of it seriously and you'll have a blast!
Ivan,
You have now compelled me to go back and watch this episode today. If there was a Scrung-o emoji, I would give you five out of five on the Scrung-o scale for your post.

Somewhere on these boards somebody once claimed that the actor playing Scrung-o appeared on a Hawaii Five-0. I have yet to spot him.
Maybe he appeared on one of the last two seasons' episodes that are never rerun?
Who knows perhaps his Scrung-o character originated on Hawaii Five-O, as I recall wasn't there also a minor cop character who appeared on both series?
I would have loved to have seen McGarrett collar him and say, "Got ya, Scrung-o, book him, murder one!"
Ask and ye shall receive. :) Here you go, Dobie! Scrung-o on Five-O: https://ibb.co/k9WWSmm

Looking much more dignified than on MPI. :) This is from the season 1 episode "Up Tight" (this is the famous psychedelic drug tripping episode) with Ed Flanders as a drug-dispensing guru, which results in a girl at the start of the episode to leap off a cliff into the ocean under the influence of those drugs. It's not a favorite of mine but it sure is a trippy episode with some far-out camera angles and POV shots which really put you into the shoes of the person suffering from these drug-induced hallucinations. Definitely a product of its time - the late 60s drug culture scene. Anyway, Scrung-o has a small part here as a Dr. Fuller who treats these druggies at this hospital/rehab center. The actor's name is James C. Bertino.

Holy crap, I would never have spotted him all cleaned up like that. Okay then, season one's "Up Tight" with James C. Bertino aka Scrung-o is now on my watch list. Thank you for the info.

Also, on the Magnumometer score: Doesn't Sheree North count as a famous guest star? And doesn't Luther's "brother" getting shot in the hand in the opening scene count as a bullet wound?
The Magnumometer is pretty subjective on the question of "famous" and I had not heard of Sheree North, so that's why I didn't count her. In fact, I had to google her before responding to this comment. Probably has something to do with my age, as I was born in 1969, so I am/was unfamiliar with her work in the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Regarding the bullet wound, I guess I should go back to my original label, which was "Magnum gunshot wounds", in other words, bullet wounds suffered by TM. Or perhaps I could borrow another's username, and go with "Magnum's Left Shoulder", since that is where they mostly end up.

H5-O did use the Dutch Angle frequently, at least early on, I think.

Pretty much every episode directed by Michael O'Herlihy (who directed more episodes than anyone else) used Dutch angles. That was his trademark! I loved it. His last episode was the season 9 premiere "Nine Dragons". So after that those cool Dutch angles were gone. :(

Coincidentally I just watched a season 3 A-TEAM episode last week ("Bounty") which was directed by O'Herlihy and sure enough he used those Dutch angles in that one! He only directed 1 MPI episode ("Past Tense") but I can't recall if he used them there. Do you recall?

I don’t recall either. It’s not my one of my favorite episodes and it’s been quite a while since I’ve seen it. It really only stands out to me for having the “other” Icepick, kind of like Foiled Again with the “other” Carol.

For me "Past Tense" is definitely one of the stronger episodes of the season. That 4-episode run of "Past Tense", "Black on White", "Flashback" and "Foiled Again" is probably the best 4-straight episodes of the series! "Foiled Again" is for me the best Higgins-centric episode. Episodes like these make season 3 the best season for me.

EDIT: By the way, ENSHealy, welcome back! You seem to have come out of your hibernation (because of spring maybe?) as I see you posting everywhere. :) I enjoyed watching your video clip highlights of each episode as I've been making my way through the seasons.

Those are all solid episodes, but some I rewatch far less often. Black on White and Flashback I watch more frequently than the other two. At this point, I’ve seen every episode many times, so when I see one playing, I only DVR it if it’s one of the episodes I really like. That totals probably only a few dozen episodes or so, of all types, and with varying reasons why I became attached to them.

When asked about my favorite seasons, I just look at those I seem to watch the most. The pilot is definitely one of them, largely from the nostalgia of watching it when it debuted on TV when I was young. Even though I also vividly recall watching the finale, by then in high school, it’s not on my list. Limbo certainly is, because everyone thought it was over at the time and we talked a lot about it the next day.

Thanks, it is good to be back. Every once in a while, I just sort of fade away from Magnum. But then some time passes, and I get back to it. Not sure what tripped the trigger this time. The past couple years were busy ones, however, and now I've got more time, so I thought I'd try to catch up on two years of unread notifications. A lot happened while I was gone!
