Re: The Robin Masters Estate (Pahonu)
I remember watching Magnum as a child, here in England. Certain things stuck in my mind - such as was Higgins really Robin Masters, when Magnum got shot and was wondering around as a sort of ghost, The Lads' always chasing Magnum, and of course the awesome location.
I picked up from Season 3 last year when it was showing on one of the channels. It seems that it would sometimes show a season or two, then go back to the beginning of those seasons, as if they only had the rights to show them, but this time it ran through to the end, so I watched and really enjoyed it.
I think Magnum really contributed to my love of Hawaiil- that and an interest in surfing at the time, and when I was 17, earning a wage with little outgoings, I decided to go and booked a two centre holiday for the following year - a week in LA followed by a week in Waikiki. Luckily_a friend wanted to come, but if not, I would have gone on my own anyway.
Anyway, to get to the point of allthis, we had used a fairly large percentage of our spending money in LA, and had done many activities, taken many tours so were looking for a more relaxed, leisurely time in Oahu. One of the things we did was take a circular bus trip around the island, I seem to remember it being dirt cheap and going clockwise from Waikiki or thereabouts. Anyway. I wasn't thinking of Magnum around that time, but recently I was wondering if we went past Robin's Nest -Ifeel fairly. sure We probably did and nowd of course wish we had looked out, or even got off and had a look. I tried looking at the bus routes the other day, but of course this was a long time ago (November 1991) and things will probably have changed a lot. Right now 1 am almost kicking myself that we didn't at least see it, because of course, it is gone now isn't it. Anybody happen to know if we would have driven right past on the circular bus journey?

I'm not really able to answer your question, but I can say that I too am sorry that I didn't try and get a look at it while it was still standing.

Re: The Robin Masters Estate (Pahonu)
I see at least a few errors in the reporting. First, the LLC representing the Obama’s purchased the property from the trust that Eve Anderson was associated with. There is no record of Jim Neighbors owning it that I have seen in the public record. Second, Eve Anderson applied for the exemption to allow the sea walls to remain and be modified in order to maintain the property’s value for its sale. These permits and their request are in the public record. Third, private beach access in Hawaii refers to direct access to a beach from a private property, not that a beach is private. Just as in California, beaches are public access by state law. When former President Nixon owned a property in San Clemente with private beach access, it remained a public beach. The secret service was often present when he was in residence, but the beach remained publicly accessible.

I recall Jim Nabors place was described as being a plantation with 170 acres of macadamia trees, so it couldn't have been Robins Nest. That has to be worth some serious bucks, shazam!

Yeah as I recall Gomer owned a macadamia plantation. On the Big Island if I'm not mistaken? Or maybe Maui? I'm positive it wasn't Oahu.Luther's nephew Dobie wrote: ↑Tue Mar 18, 2025 3:22 amThank you for the information.Pahonu wrote: ↑Sat Mar 15, 2025 10:59 pmI see at least a few errors in the reporting. In 2008 our tour group visited a macadamia nut plantation on our 1-day flyover to the Big Island. Wonder if that was Gomer's plantation.

It was on Maui where Nabors had his plantation.
I always remember the multi-episode story arc when Gomer and Carter got to DC, and Gomer visits the Lincoln Memorial late at night. We had visited DC at that time, and like Gomer visited the
Memorial, it was past 11 PM, as I was six it was the latest I had ever stayed up. It's totally different late at night, more an American cathedral than the packed tourist draw it is in daytime, the few
people there talk in low whispers without being bidden to, it just seems respectful and the right thing to do. If you are ever in DC, trust me and go see it late night, it's worth the trouble and there is zero
traffic then(well, 20 years ago at least).
I have to admit movie buff me, in the times I returned there, also got a kick out of it's where Jimmy Stewart did a great scene in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.
There I go off on a tangent again.

Yep, we visited the Lincoln Memorial several times, both during the day and night, and you are correct - there is something about the place at night that is really awe-inspiring.Luther's nephew Dobie wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 4:34 amHi Ivan,ZelenskyTheValiant (Ivan) wrote: ↑Tue Mar 18, 2025 3:29 pmYeah as I recall Gomer owned a macadamia plantation. Re: The Robin Masters Estate (Pahonu)
I am pretty sure you guys rode right past the estate. If your tour took you all the way around the shore of the island, then I believe Kalanianaole Highway (HI-72 on the pic below) is the only way around the southeast corner of the island, and that is the road Robin's Nest is on (it is just south of Kaiona Beach Park on the pic below). The only way you would have missed it, if you went clockwise around Oahu, would have been to cut west over the mountains south of Kaneohe (via the Pali Highway mentioned in the pilot episode).Stu KE wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 12:05 pm Anyway, to get to the point of allthis, we had used a fairly large percentage of our spending money in LA, and had done many activities, taken many tours so were looking for a more relaxed, leisurely time in Oahu. My ex-wife once travelled to Hawaii (during the run of the show) to visit her friend's boyfriend, who was a Marine stationed at Kaneohe. It's always bugged me that she drove right by Robin's Nest and didn't have a clue. Meanwhile, I have yet to visit Hawaii and now the estate is gone. C'est la vie.
