I liked this episode...Saigon Suzy is likely a prostitute, or could be the Madame. There is usually someone like her overseas where ever GIs are. There is a Songtan Sally that operates a business outside of Osan AB in Korea. She is legendary...locals sell t-shirts with her picture on it and her famous pick up line...."You wanna go?". She has a knack for finding the fresh meat, Airmen new to the area.

I have recently been working on reproductions of some of the paintings from Magnum PI...the latest was a reproduction of the stolen Gauguin from this episode...Image

In this episode we can listen at various Christmas tunes, for example at about 5 minutes there is one, possibly 'Hark! The Herald Angels Sing'? Then in the airport sequence beginning at about 44'45'' until about 47'15'', it's very difficult to listen to the music which overlaps with the dialogue, maybe 'O Holy Night' or 'It Came Upon the Midnight Clear'?

Watching this episode last week, I realized that "these five urchins" are in their mid-to-late 50's now.

Wow, that really underlines its been 40 years! I always thought those kids were adorable - they reminded me of my nieces - especially when they interacted with Hillerman and called him "Huggins".
Now they could audition for the role of Agatha if there was yet another Magnum PI remake.

I was just messing with you, I figured that would elicit a response.
But a properly done theatrical release with a proper cast, crafted by people who loved Classic Magnum, could work.
I am having problems imaging any current movie star in the role.
Selleck in a cameo as a tourist would be nice, Dan Ackroyd as Luther Gillis, Fran Drescher as Agatha, Dwayne Johnson as TC, Bill Murray as Robin, for Rick a much harder edged actor
actually from Chi-Town, Rowan Atkinson as Higgins, maybe lure back a retired Jack Nicholson as Ice Pick as he looks the part now.

Sandy Mason(John Larch) in the Route 66 episode "Go Read The River":
"Somewhere, somehow a beautiful thing, a simple morality, a single set of standards was shattered, and now what's good for a man may not be good for his company, and what's good for
his company may not be good for his country, and what's good for his country may not be good for his world."

We learn that the estate, at least in the Magnuverse, has no bathrooms on the 2nd floor. Higgins tells the girls (while standing in the first floor living room) "you will be restricted to the second floor guest quarters. Unless, of course, you need to use the lavatory facilities. Those are located at the end of the hall." However, we know from Pahonu and Rembrandt's Girl that IRL, the estate has 3 bathrooms on the 2nd floor.
I took that to mean he was telling them to stay in the bedroom unless they had to use the bathroom, which is at the end of the hall. I.e. the same hall where their bedroom is, not on a different floor.
Good point, that was a misinterpretation of the dialogue on my part. Your version makes much more sense.

It's funny, I guess I was being naive, but I always assumed Saigon Suzie's was just a bar. I guess I watched too much Walton's in the 70s.

the Roxanne girl below, any update on what her real name is ? she looks like Julie of Love Boat (Lauren Tewes). Note the space in her front teeth, kinda like Julie in Love Boat. I love this gal, stunning face, nice curves, 80s women rock. Interesting that Roxanne is Uncredited, not sure the reason but considering how popular this series became later, she could have been a huge star if her name was out there.

Perhaps you guys could keep an eye out for her on other Universal TV series - and their end credits - of the period. Mike Hammer, A-Team, Rockford Files, shows with a high "eye candy" content.

Yes but for all we know, would be writer John Boy wound up covering the war in Vietnam and had a regular table at Saigon Suzy's along with Mad Buck Gibson.
The boys trading shots, swapping stories and befriending the girls in a brotherly manner.

"I've seen the elephant and I've heard the owl"

Saying popularized in the Civil War by both sides, with roots in the Mexican War. Ostensibly meaning you've now been to the big city and one can't pull the wool over your eyes.
In a time when the average person never ventured more than 50 miles away from home in their lifetime, what with traveling being so difficult.
But in soldiers parlance it meant going to a Saigon Suzy's.
Many of the popular songs back then were actually about prostitutes. Such as "My Darling Clementine", Clem raising morale at various mining camps.
Its pretty ribald, even after she dies she is still generating income, though one miner objects -
"Now she's dead I draw the line, dreadful sorry Clementine".
