I really do too. It's one of my favorite episodes for TC.

It's probably my least favorite episode of the season (no wait, that would be "One More Summer"). Andrea Marcovicci is EXTREMELY annoying and unlikable in this one! And T.C.'s infatuation with ballet is downright bizarre.

Agree it's a weak episode. And 'Kendall Chase' is a very annoying character.

It's probably my least favorite episode of the season (no wait, that would be "One More Summer"). Andrea Marcovicci is EXTREMELY annoying and unlikable in this one! And T.C.'s infatuation with ballet is downright bizarre.

I don’t find it bizarre at all that a character might have widely varied interests rather than being narrow minded or dismissive of unfamiliar things. I’m a 6-8 former college basketball player and high school coach who was introduced to opera long ago by my wife. We have attended many over the last 25+ years and I have come to enjoy live performances very much. Because of her French ancestry, she also introduced me to French opera (and wine ) which invariably has a ballet in it. I completely appreciate the athleticism of the dancers, which is amazing. Those who disparage it are not athletes themselves, I feel. I think TC as a character was more interesting because of it.

I do agree that Kendall was an annoying character, but that was the point. Magnum had to deal with a difficult personality. If she was a very pleasant person, much of the conflict and interest would have been lost. On a humorous side note, Magnum was absolutely correct that she walked like a duck! I had a student 15 or more years ago when my daughter was about 5 or 6. She was a very talented dancer and was teaching ballet lessons her senior year before leaving for college. Her pupils included my daughter. I recall more than once noting her walking with turnout. I suppose a dancer can only hold all the positions for so long before it becomes normalized!

Yeah. Finding her annoying is pretty much the point. It reminds me of Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction. She played such a good psycho that I couldn’t stand her in anything else. It took me a while to realize how good she was. Scared the sh** out of me.

Exactly, she was supposed to be a prima ballerina in the operatic diva mold.

LOL! My wife says the same thing about Glenn Close. I can’t remember what she saw her in much later, but she told me how good an actress she was. I remember thinking, of course she is. My first impression of her came from The World According to Garp, John Lithgow too actually. I still enjoy that film now and again, but it’s a bit melancholy watching since Robin Williams’ death.

Interesting to watch this episode somewhat attentively this time around. I was thinking more about the ballet themed episode and I think it’s probably a little more odd by today’s standards. It was probably the Soviet influence we all were subjected to back then, but there really was a ballet fad for a while. We all know who Baryshnikov, but I bet none of us (okay, maybe Pahonu) could name a current ballet dancer without the help of Google. And remember that movie White Nights? It was a big deal.

I didn’t mind this episode. Very lazy plot, but nice seeing Mac and everyone coming right into the case this time around.

I couldn’t help noticing when Higgins runs over to help when Magnum kills the intruder on the property that he really has trouble running. I know Hillernan ended up unable to walk in his later years and I wonder if it was a problem for him even this early in life?

I’m not a big ballet aficionado, but local SoCal dancer Misty Copeland comes to mind currently. I saw her in the Nutcracker before the pandemic. She’s a real groundbreaker in the art form. I really came to follow opera though, because of my wife’s passion and could have a much better conversation on the topic.

You are absolutely correct that ballet had its moment in popular culture with Baryshnikov and White Nights.

Well, I didn't get to watch yesterday, but my boys & I are going camping next week (for a definition of "camping" that includes propane heat, electricity, and running water), and we'll be taking a few episodes of Magnum along with us -- The Sixth Position, Ghost Writer, and Operation: Silent Night. That, some episodes of The Jetsons, and a RetroN 77 will be fun. And some hiking too.

Quite the simplistic stereo type there Ivan. You seem easily surprised that people like all kinds of things that you don’t like or understand. The great singer and actor Paul Robeson performed as Othello in London and in early Hollywood musicals such as Showboat, for which his rendition of Old Man River became renowned worldwide. He was also an All-American football player from Rutgers and received a law degree from Columbia. Pay Gasol is an opera fan, David Beckham enjoys the symphony, and former Oiler’s tackle Lawrence Harris actually sang opera! I’m not comparing myself in any way to these incredible talents, but your assumption that an athlete who enjoys music of any type is bizarre, is simply narrow-minded. Also, whatever that truly bizarre Tarzan/Jane quip means is beyond me unless you believe only women enjoy opera or perform in it. Why not try to learn about different things rather that criticize them with poor jokes because you’re unfamiliar?
