I mean, it really is a nice example, but it's too rich for me. I'm pretty happy with the one I got. I really should polish it.

The seller pulled that one down and relisted it as an auction item. The winning bid was $3,350.53: https://www.ebay.com/itm/234220278828?_ ... 1758.m4704. The buyer paid a premium, but landed a nice Chronosport already rebuilt by Jack.

After watching eBay for the past few months, I'm convinced there are more Chronosport Sea Quartz watches out there. I'm prepared to wait for the right one with the TM correct black day/date function.

In the meantime, still loving my Magnum-esque Squale Militaire. I've taken it diving four times now. The Tropic Strap is incredibly comfortable and fits easily over a 5mm wetsuit. It's definitely at home down deep.

Best,

Thank you for sharing, Eagle. That's a great looking Chronosport. Look forward to seeing it on the Tropic.

Cheers!

That's so awesome to have all that paperwork. The former owner was a great caretaker.

Interesting to note the original $230 msrp, which he got at a sweet 30% off! Also interesting to note that they had to change the second hand and they did so with a paddle hand with a shorter "paddle." I believe these were the ones they were using for the Sea Quarts 1000, which succeeded the SQ30. That must have just been the service hands they used when things needed replacing - the older long paddles must have been out of stock by then.

Yes, I have thought of contacting him again on eBay to compliment him, but I suspect he probably doesn't care. :)

Anyway, I had noticed the service for the second-hand, but didn't notice until just now about the paddle size. It might be nice to have some NOS hands installed, but I'll just leave it.

As far as servicing this unit, I'm thinking I'll have the lume repainted (hands and face) and the crystal replaced, but otherwise leave it as-is. A new bezel would be nice, but I have absolutely no idea where to find those, and searches have been fruitless. Maybe Jack knows.

My experience has been that original SQ30 hands are impossible to find.

What do you guys think about this strap for a Chronosport SQ30? I'm getting a Tropic Strap, and will primarily use it for my SQ30, but I like the look of that NATO style strap, and the orange stripe down the middle would bring out the minute hand on the SQ30.

I note that the Maen Skymaster's second hand looks awfully similar to the SQ30's second hand. I wonder if that could be swapped out...

Honestly, even if it could, it probably wouldn't look good.

I'm more into flat colours for nato straps. I feel like the business can detract from the watch itself (but not always). This one is a little too much colour for me. With regard to the second hand on the Maen, I wouldn't bother trying. I've had a set of hands made for my SQ30 and my watchmaker is working on it now. We'll see how it looks. I've got a few extras, so if it looks good and he hasn't damaged the extras I'll pop one in the mail to you. The ones I had made are identical to the originals. That said, yours is an authentic service hand, so don't let it bother you. I know that once you see these things, you can't unsee them...but maybe it's better to have an authentic Chronosport service hand than a replica of the original.

You will love the Tropic Strap. My Squale Militaire came with one. It's, by far, the most comfortable strap that I own. It's holding up well, too. It accompanied me on 8 dives this year - down to 74 feet so far. Easily straps on top of a 5mm wetsuit. I expect it will last a long time.

That’s interesting to know. I always thought they were relatively short. Didn’t think you’d be able to fit it over a wetsuit. I use a seven mil up here and typically need some good length for that. My most comfortable rubber strap is the one that came stock on my Seiko turtle. Good to know the original topic is more than just a handsome high priced trademark.

I'm a desk diver, and the only real diving I do is to a max of 9' depth at the neighborhood pool. :magnum:

I took SCUBA classes at university and went on a few class-related dives, but never used my NAUI card after that.
