I'm watching the 1973 film "The Long Goodbye" about detective Philip Marlowe ... there's a doberman who goes after him in several scenes, and only him.
At a party scene, with house full of people, the dog ignores all the guests except Marlowe.
Makes me wonder if the film was an inspiration for the dogs in Magnum P.I.

It's been a while since I've seen that film. I remember liking it though.
Somehow I don't think it's related. I remember dobermans being very popular around that time - particularly known for their trainability and guard dog capabilities. Probably just a reflection of that in both cases.

That’s directed by Robert Altman and starring Elliot Gould. I really like the film, but can’t say much about the Doberman connection, though I see the similarities.

Indeed they were. In the ‘70s, my family lived in a house where our back yard faced that of a family who had a Doberman. For some reason, the dog had a large plastic cone on his neck which also covered its head, which made the pooch all the more terrifying to young me at the time!Styles Bitchley wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 9:34 pm It's been a while since I've seen that film. There’s also The Doberman Gang movie from the 70’s.
