Didn’t enjoy this one much.
Slow, confusing. Didn’t really follow the story very well. Half way through I was like what the heck is this about?

Yes it's pretty creepy. Classic episode! Greg Mullavey as the psycho was truly deranged. Curious - how did you see this one?![]()
Yes there are a few of these "financial" stories over the show's run and I'm not a big fan of those. I'm just not into finances - stocks, bonds, certificates, etc. The episode did have Jack Hogan again as Murdock, Jr.
Great episode for me! Love the spy stuff and Cold War story. All the guest stars did a great job. Nehemiah Persoff in particular gave a terrific performance as an East German spy with 3 different identities who also has photographic memory. Really loved his character, especially when you started to peel off the layers. And then you still didn't know whether it was the truth or a lie. Just a great look into the harrowing world of espionage and what some of these guys were subjected to. It's certainly not the glamor of James Bond. These were tragic figures, tortured souls - physically and mentally. Also Malachi Throne and Mark Lenard gave great performances as well. You may remember Lenard as the "insane ninja" who was out to bomb Pearl Harbor all over again in "To Hell with Babe Ruth" back in season 2. That was a terrible performance though - constant ranting and yelling and shrieking from him. Plus a hideous makeup job. Uggh!
Not saying this because I fear you (which of course I do).IvanTheTerrible wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 6:45 pmGreat episode for me! Love the spy stuff and Cold War story. Yep, Persoff is still very lucid and in control at his age. He speaks like he's still in his 70s. Amazing! I think I read somewhere that he's currently the oldest living actor, with the passing of Kirk Douglas, Olivia DeHavilland, and Norman Lloyd.Sam wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 1:08 am Hey TQ.... Speaking of Persoff, the cat will be 102 in August and still going strong.. scroll to the bottom of this link nice video from a few years ago..

But reading your review I started thinking it was a bit better than I thought right after the watch.

WHAT?
Yep, great episode! If you loved the earlier sniper episode "And I Want Some Candy and a Gun That Shoots" then why wouldn't you love (or at least like) this one? They're too similar to love one and dislike the other. Actually for the longest time this was one of my favorites, until I saw the earlier episode ("Candy") and realized that it was the stronger of the two. It also came first. That said, I still really like this one. Again, it's too similar to dislike. There are some tense moments here as well. When the cop stops Luther and Frank, and Luther freaks out and kills the cop that was pretty tense! Actually the Luther character here played by Ron Feinberg is very similar to the Benny Apa character that Feinberg played back in season 1 in "Pray Love Remember" where Benny was this mentally challenged big guy who accidentally killed the girl and then was lying to McGarrett because "I ain't got no driving license, mister". Luther kills a cop here too because he doesn't have a license. The standoff at the Diamond Head bunker is all top stuff too! The earlier episode was deemed too violent so they decided to make this episode and soften it up a little. It's not just some psycho up there randomly shooting at passing cars. Here the 2 guys have a reason for being up there. There's a little girl involved too but she's not in any danger from her kidnappers. But there's a mystery about who hired the kidnappers to abduct the little girl. Is it a rehash of sorts? Yes. But it's not badly done or anything, and there's enough new things here to make it a good show. I like it.
