You Don't Have to Kill to Get Rich - But It Helps.

Great episode.

Shatner was great.

Slimy and conniving and it bit him in the butt.

Can’t not mention the Oriental babes by the pool. 8)

MPI: Robin’s Nest, Ric Marlow (multiple) and I think his henchman was Artie Canoe :luther: but not sure now as the credits don’t say.
Knocking my rubber chicken or my sloppy habits is within the rules, but you're attacking my character. I would like to think you don't mean that.

Is this the episode with the brief shot of them breaking into the balcony on the sea wall side of Pahonu? That’s Al Harrington as Ben in that one, if I’m correct.

That car is an incredible sight indeed! Not sure what year this one is. Probably not the exact same one that was seen on the show (this one is maybe a few years newer) but the basic body type is similar. Hard to take your eyes off it, eh?

Finally an episode that you call "great" and I would just call "good". Because all the great ones you simply call "good episode" or "pretty good".

But yeah, this one was a pretty good one with a pretty intricate extortion scheme - essentially a corporation that deals in blackmail and extortion on a massive and sophisticated scale. I did like that part quite a bit. Shatner was good too trying to muscle his way into the action. I heard or read somewhere that there was some ill will between Jack Lord and Shatner (because Lord was the original choice for the Capt. Kirk role, until he demanded too much) hence why they only appear together at the very end at the Pahonu tidal pool where Shat is booked. Though I'm not sure why there would be any hard feelings between the two of them. I would think Lord's beef would be with the producers (Roddenberry?) or NBC, not the Shat. In the long run Lord got the better show anyway, and one that ran for much longer! I just can't see Lord making hammy and exaggerated facial expressions at space monsters and other sci-fi geek creatures. That's Shatner's territory. Lord is too good an actor for that crap.

DOH.

The old good, pretty good, great debate.

Basically wrote great because I love Shatner.

Episode was 8/10.

Pig in a Blanket

GREAT episode. Very powerful.

The vitriol of Chinough's killer so reminiscent of what's going on today.

So much to discuss about this episode but I won't here.

It will just blow up into a political argument and I want to avoid that on Magnum Mania.

Excellent episode though.

8/10 sounds about right. Not as good as "No Bottles" though. :D

Indeed. Great episode! Love it more and more each time I see it. Might just be James MacArthur's best acting in the entire series! From the murder of his cop friend to the shooting of the kid it's a double whammy for poor Danno. We've never seen him this distraught. Powerful performance, powerful episode. I like it even more than season 1's "And They Painted Daisies on His Coffin" where you'll recall Danno also shot a seemingly unarmed kid and was being indicted.

By this point the show was really firing on all cylinders and was at its peak creatively and in the ratings - #3 in the Nielsen ratings during the 72-73 season, just behind ALL IN THE FAMILY and SANFORD & SON.

Undercover as Harry K. Brown.

Ask a kid what this is. Guaranteed you’ll stump them!

Look at the uniform. Mauna Loa is spelled wrong for some reason.

Antoinette Bower and the six kilos are taken into custody.

I'm guessing a kid might know what this is. According to Biden, kids should turn on their record players at night before going to bed. So if kids today still listen to record players I'm sure they also listen to reel-to-reel tapes. :D

Hold on now. Vinyl records have made a big comeback lately so the President was not wrong in what he said. It’s funny, I remember when CD’s first came out. They were supposed to sound better than vinyl. Now I hear that vinyl has a better sound than CD’s. What gives? :?:

Yeah but in his case it was definitely a slip of the tongue. Not because he truly believes records are making a comeback. Mentally he's still a kid listening to his record player.

The Jinn Who Clears the Way

Love the Wo Fat episodes.

Felt a lull in this episode and I thought hmm, what am I gonna say to Ivan.

Scene from Tom Wong being brought in until the end made up for it though.

Ending was great. MCGarrett’s righteous indignation.

MPI: Bunch of the regular crew and sited Joe Moore (I’m a fan growing up going to Hawaii every year and watching the news there).

I'm honestly not one of the biggest fans of the Wo Fat episodes in general. I do think the pilot episode "Cocoon" was great and I also love both the season 3 opener "...And a Time to Die" and the season 9 opener "Nine Dragons" but the rest of the Wo Fat episodes are of varying quality for me. I prefer many of the other interesting villains that we saw on the show. Wo Fat was a good villain but give me the likes of Big Chicken or Lewis Avery Filer or the Vashons or Hookman any day.

Now, this episode I must admit I've warmed up to quite a bit over the years. As you say, especially the second half is VERY good. And that ending where McGarrett gets into a heated argument with Jonathan Kaye, culminating with him slamming Fat's passport on his desk followed by a freeze-frame is an absolute classic! But there was a time when I found this episode pretty boring. I know, I'm ashamed. I should probably climb into my own bamboo cage. :?

Joe Moore was in so many episodes of Five-O, even in some fairly prominent roles later in the series. Heh, I think he was the one I watched on YouTube when news broke of Robin's Nest being demolished. I think he covered that story. Or maybe it was the story of Robin's Nest being sold and the connection to Obama.
