That's most important. I'm reminded of Jack Lord's daily routine of jogging every single morning (very early!!) before going to the set to work. He was a creature of habit and very disciplined. All that exercise to stay in shape and to stay healthy and yet arthritis had already started setting in by the show's 12th season. Some accounts say that it was also around that time that he started suffering from Alzheimer's (early stages I'm sure). You could tell that he was reading from cue cards in certain scenes as he started having difficulty remembering his lines. He was only 59. So exercise is good but sometimes it's best to take it easy and not overdo it. In fact in Lord's case I'm sure all that jogging actually took a toll on his knees and brought on the arthritis. He died at 77, not exactly a very old age, especially for someone who took care of himself the way he did. Didn't smoke or drink either from what I understand.

Bottom line - don't worry about the weight lifting. Not worth it. Take it easy and just take care of yourself. I just hit 40 and growing my belly muscle too so you're not alone. :) I haven't jogged in over a year now and I used to do it at least a few times a week!
Some solid advice Ivan.

Wisdom beyond your years.

When I hit 40 I stopped drinking and lost 70 lbs (265 - 195).

Working out became integral to my health and life. Became enjoyable.

Was in the best shape of my life at 45.

Really hard to accept reality now with some stupid auto-immune garbage. :x

Speaking of our favorite episodes and guest stars, we just lost 2 of them.

Henry Darrow who played the sleazy gangster Johnny Oporta in T.Q.'s favorite "No Bottles... No Cans... No People" passed away. I see that he was on MPI too, in "Paniolo".

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/ ... dies-at-87

Also, the great Yaphet Kotto who played the marine John Auston who was suffering from PTSD and mentally reverted back to being in Vietnam and took a hospital wing and Danno hostage in the excellent season 1 episode "King of the Hill" also just passed away. He was one of my favorite Bond villains in one of my favorite Bond films - LIVE AND LET DIE. Also loved him as FBI Agent Alonzo Moseley in the 80s classic MIDNIGHT RUN. So many great lines in that one!

That's too bad.

Yaphet Kotto was great in that episode for sure.

P.S. Hearing the words "No Bottles... No Cans... No People" over and over is becoming more painful than my arthritis.

In that case I'll ease your pain by shortening it to just "No Bottles".

Ivan,

I got good news.

I do not have rheumatoid arthritis.

He thinks just regular arthritis (with aging) or gout.

Hopefully it will be easily manageable and I can get back to da weights and Hawaii Five-0 when I get home from Florida.

I refuse to get old!

P.S. Florida freedom is great. Good job DeSantis. Had a great time.

Good to hear! Two people I know have gout though it’s in their feet not hands. It seems to be quite sporadic rather than chronic, and much more easily managed with diet and medication. Miami Beach was crazy in the last few days. Hope you steered clear.

Thanks P.

Stayed steps from the Hollywood Broadwalk. Cool spot.

Mahalo Ivan

I'll be careful.

Still gotta keep up some of my strength in case I ever end up back in your bamboo cage.

Back at it.

Light Schwinn (stationary bike) and an episode. Finally.

Death Wish on Tantalus Mountain

Okay. Average. Wish my return had been better.

Diana Muldaur back. She was a babe back then.

Ricardo Montalban always a treat.

Image

Good timing on the gif... Think I saw Shatner’s in the next episode.

Good to hear you’re on the bike. It’s an average episode, I would say, but I always loved the DeTomaso Pantera car he drove in the episode, Italian styling with a big American V-8. The show is the reason I knew of the vehicle at the time. In an interesting twist, my grandmother lived in an apartment complex for retirees in the 90’s before her passing. Coincidentally, it was almost across the street from my future mother in law’s home, but I didn’t know it at the time. Anyway, the owner of the apartments was on older man and had a bright yellow Pantera with a black and two red stripes down the middle. I used to see it out front often when I stopped by to see my grandma. One weekend morning I ran in to him washing the car out front and commented on it. He must have recognized me, because he asked me if I wanted a ride or to drive it myself! I was about 20 or 21 at the time, and I was stoked! I helped him finish drying it and took him up on his offer. The thing I remember most, besides being cramped because of my height, was that the clutch was so heavy to use and I couldn’t see anything out of the interior rear view mirror. I drove a few blocks with him but I never really pushed it before coming back, but it was still a fun experience. It was really loud and even my modest acceleration in it was exciting. Probably my closest experience to a Ferrari 308, which I definitely wouldn’t fit in!

The Pantera is one really snazzy car!!!! It sure gives TM's Ferrari a run for its money! :o

The car is really the main draw here. It's a good episode but not great. It's the only episode scored by composer Pete Rugolo (best known for his work on 60's THE FUGITIVE) and definitely sounds different than the typical Five-O sound from the regular guys like Stevens, Shores, and Ray.

Glad you're back in the saddle (of your bike), T.Q. and plowing forward with Five-O. Bring on the Shat!

Nice shot! Those rear tires are so wide. I remember the steering being really heavy at slow speeds now that I think about it some more. The front tires were probably pretty wide too. It’s a noticeable car in red like your post, but the one I was in was yellow and had a wide black stripe down the center, then a little yellow on each side of that, and then narrower red stripes. This went bumper to bumper. I forgot that it also had a big wing, also striped. No one could miss the thing. I was certainly impressed in my early 20’s!

Edit:
These show the wing and yellow color and the triple stripes, though the outer ones were red and the car was yellow.
