Was a great episode too Kee.
Knocking my rubber chicken or my sloppy habits is within the rules, but you're attacking my character. I would like to think you don't mean that.

I told no lie.

Excellent and fun episode.

From beginning break-out to the last scene.

Lewis Avery Filer at it again.

I loved McGarrett's respect (and amusement) for Filer.

Episode top notch.

MPI sighting: Moe Keale
You chose.... wisely. :D I thought you might like it. Yep, Filer is back at it again. Another great turn by Hume Cronyn who I maintain should have been nominated (and won!) an Emmy. Here he actually plays two characters - Filer and Elmo Ziegler. Great fun! Granted, the episode isn't as memorable as "Over Fifty? Steal" where he first popped up but it's still a solid follow-up. The escape at the beginning was fun and I enjoyed watching him stay one step ahead of both McGarrett and the gangsters.

Oh... for a special treat... here's a very rare behind the scenes look at the filming of the show. As a matter of fact it's the filming of this episode. At the 0:50 mark you can see James MacArthur with the guy who played Goro Shibata and the third guy looks like stuntman/frequent guest Beau Van Den Ecker. Then you see director Paul Stanley who directed this episode (and many others, including my favorite "Rest in Peace, Somebody") doing his thing. Cool little featurette - enjoy!!

By the way, that's series creator Leonard Freeman at the 2:40 mark speaking about the future of Five-O, projecting that they'll get renewed for a 5th season (which ended up being their highest-rated season). He would pass away in 1974, after which Jack Lord pretty much took over the show.

Bait Once, Bait Twice

Pretty good episode.

I liked the premise and the set-up with the hit.

Using McGarrett.

Good twist at the end.

Hot Lips third or fourth appearance?

MPI sightings: Lots (I'm gonna stop posting unless there's someone new).

Yep, I loved the premise of luring the witness out of hiding to kill him. Great twist!

This was the third and last appearance of "Hot Lips". This also marks the debut of D.A. John Manicote played by Glenn Cannon. From here on out that's the character Doc Ibold will play.

Also the first of 5 bad guy roles for James Olson, here playing the crooked lawyer who tries to off "Hot Lips" at the end. You may remember him as Ah-nuld's commanding officer in COMMANDO, who asks Ah-nuld at the end if he left anything for him. The reply? "Just bodies".

EDIT: Here's the ending of this episode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D072aN6G84o Looks like this is the same spot (judging by the rocks and water crashing below) where I was and where McGarrett threw the bomb at the end of "Air Cargo -- Dial for Murder". At Hanapepe Place I believe.

Ivan, did you post that video here before? I think you shared it with me in another thread because I’ve seen it before.

Honestly I can't remember. I'm sure I shared it before but not sure with whom or whether it was even here at magnum-mania. I just thought it was really cool to find actual on-location shooting for the show, when things like this are so difficult to find. Someone said Jack Lord was notorious in suppressing things like this, bloopers, etc. Maybe he didn't want to give away the magic by showing behind the scenes stuff. He did like privacy.

I agree, it’s pretty unusual, for a show of that era particularly. I think the first entertainment television shows started in the early 80’s with Entertainment Tonight. I would love to see something like that for The Rockford Files!

The Ninety-Second War

Part 1

Really good.

Bunch of ‘eeeee’ moments.

Wo Fat emerging from sub.

The TWO McGarrett scene.

Part 2

Kinda a letdown.

Not anyone’s fault. Just the plot of the episode ended up a bit disappointing.

Yep, you're exactly spot-on about this one! Most fans agree it's like watching 2 different episodes. The first part is very intriguing and suspenseful and you have no idea what's going on as things unfold. The second half is, well, boring. :( Whatever they were building up to in part 1 (where McGarrett seemed to be at the very heart of it all) is completely squandered in part 2 where McGarrett is no longer a crucial piece of any puzzle and most of which takes place in a top secret installation inside Diamond Head Crater, where a bunch of big shots sit around and talk a lot for most of the episode. Oh, and there's an appearance by Donald Pleasence (who's always good) and something about a child of his who was kidnapped and some allergies and Wo Fat requesting some blackout from him for a few seconds. But ultimately it's a very boring follow-up to an excellent first half. I mean the first half gives us McGarrett in a terrible car crash without him having any memory of how he ended up there, him fearing he may be paralyzed and then his recovery, then him getting suspended, then traveling to Switzerland, and then meeting his DOUBLE and killing him! All this in one hour! But in part 2 it's like they decided to go in a totally different direction with a new story where very little happens. It's the only 2-parter where I grade the 2 parts separately. It's like 2 different episodes.

Note: at the scene of the car crash in part 1 Danno kneels down and peers in at McGarrett through a shattered window. This shot will be used in the title theme starting with season 5 - for James MacArthur's name credit. For the longest time I didn't know where that shot came from.

Sounds like I'm free to say without incurring your wrath.

Part 2 was a pretty big letdown after that awesome part 1.

Skinhead

Solid episode.

Bold for its time.

Rape episodes of shows make me so uneasy because I have two girls.

The subject matter itself so disturbing. They did it well though.

Good twists and turns on the bad guy and the story.

I loved Kono’s righteous indignation at what he said about the rape. Again, very bold for its time.

I’m gonna miss the Big Hawaiian.

Lol

Pretty rare to post seconds apart.

Something else I’ve never mentioned.

The little quick “Batman” music between scenes in some episodes. I like it.
