Beautiful Screamer

Pretty good episode.

Felt bad for Danno although the acting wasn’t in his range.

I think of this one like some Magnum episodes.

I’ve grown attached to the characters after 2.5 seasons so even if the story isn’t blow your top off I still enjoy it for them.

The Last Eden - Hey, that’s Arty Canoe.

You can tell again I love looking for old actors.

Enjoyed both episodes.

The Late John Louisiana is a great one! Plus Al Harrington as a baddie before he replaced Kono, playing Ben starting with season 5.

The Last Eden is probably the weakest one of the season for me.

Didn't know Kono leaves the show....

He's become a favourite.

Oops, sorry T.Q. But it's actually not much of a spoiler. There's very little continuity on the show and past events or characters are rarely mentioned. They just disappear. Also if you watched the intros for further seasons on YouTube (which I think you said you did) you probably saw Al Harrington in place of Zulu, and then later Herman Wedemeyer.

Ok, no more spoilers except that in every episode the good guys win and bad guys lose.

Saw "Operation: Silent Night". NOW we're talking!! Back to form after "Letter to a Duchess". Plus it's Christmas with the entire gang... stranded on a deserted island!!

Loved everything here! Higgy's plane-raft, Rick's fears of the island, TM as Santa Claus, TC's tinkering with the copter. Everyone has something to do and all the interactions are great! The quicksand scene was hilarious - "stand up, Rick" LOL! Also loved Rick trying to tell his secret about his sister, something that he's ashamed of, and never being able to tell it. BTW, it appears to be a different sister, not the one that was killed a few episodes before this. He calls her by a different name. I thought he only had one. Flub?? Also what's the deal with the ship commander (Ed Lauter) proceeding to bomb the hell out of the island even after being told that someone is on the island? I didn't get this part.

But overall, a great Christmas episode and I especially love the ending of the copter in the night sky with the Christmas star shining brightly as the guys sing "Holy Night". This is what I love about shows from long ago! They sure don't make 'em like they used to. Makes me pine for the good old days and takes me back to my childhood - a more innocent time.

Oops, sorry. Yes I did see that link. It's nothing new that I hadn't already gleaned about Lord's life over the years, mostly from Mike Quigley's exhaustive Five-O site. But thanks. He was a fascinating man indeed. Truly a Renaissance man!

"Over Fifty? Steal" is that rare comedic episode that we didn't see much of on the show. It is indeed a gem and my personal favorite from season 3! Hume Cronyn should have been nominated (and won!) an Emmy for his guest role as Lewis Avery Filer. Alas again Five-O is snubbed. In fact the ONLY guest star on the show that was nominated was the great Helen Hayes during season 8 (she was actually James MacArthur's adoptive mother in real life and played Danno's Aunt Clara who visits Hawaii in one episode). Interestingly that was also a comedic episode. You almost have to assume that she was nominated solely because of her film and stage pedigree. But it's a shame because there were so many great guest stars on the show who should have received Emmy recognition. Hume Cronyn, Gavin MacLeod, Luther Adler, Harold Gould, Rich Little, Albert Paulsen, Danny Goldman ("Mmmmmmister McGarrett"), etc.

"Beautiful Screamer" is definitely top 5 material from season 3. Heart-breaking to see Danno's world shatter. Anne Archer was perfect casting as the sweet Jane who captured Danno's heart.

Well said Ivan. You have me yearning to see all these episodes again. I can't believe you mentioned character actor Danny Goldman, who died this year.
Most people never notice these guys, but from the time I was old enough to gather that John Ford had a stock company of actors he used over and over
I appreciated these people and was a avid reader of the credits at the end of episodes.

Yeah, "The Payoff" isn't a big favorite of mine, even though many really like it.

"The Double Wall" is great! Very fast-paced and urgent as its a race against time to prove a man innocent. So many recognizable actors in that one - Monte Markham, William Schallert, Joan Van Ark, Sorrell Booke (Boss Hogg!), R.G. Armstrong, Mills Watson, Peter Whitney (who played a villain in pretty much every TV western of the 50s and 60s), and again Al Harrington (before he joined the show as Ben Kokua) as a guard who won't believe Kellem's story.

Didn’t think it was great

Good ending though.

One thing that stood out was McGarrett feeling empathy at the end for what happened to the land.

You can feel slighted by the past but “You can’t turn back the clock”.

Nice to hear in the era of the grievance industry where it seems people want revenge for things that happened hundreds of years ago.

Paniolo is also just okay for me (not among my favorites of the season, though still good) although it does have some gorgeous Maui scenery! But I would have expected you to like it more because it has the native Hawaiian themes in it which I know you like.

Ten Thousand Diamonds - this one is very good, among the best heist episodes of the series! Very clever!!

To Kill or Be Killed - like "Paniolo" this one has a very good story but it's not among my favorites of the season. Just not very rewatchable for me. Kind of meanders for quite a bit but it does deliver a POWERFUL and EMOTIONAL ending!

- Doc Ibold to us Five-O fans is better known as the District Attorney John Manicote (from later in season 4 and onwards).
