Great link N1095A!
From the Marble Mountain Air Facility, its home base southeast of Da Nang. the squadron flew sorties throughout the I Corps region of northern South Vietnam. During the 1968 enemy Tet offensive, the squadron’s combat proficiency was taxed to the utmost. In February, the high point of the offensive, the squadron amassed an impressive number of combat missions: 4983 sorties were flown and 1766.7 flight hours were logged. Continued heavy fighting in 1968 saw VMO-2’s participation in such major operations as PEGASUS, SCOTLAND II, ALLEN BROOK, LANCASTER II, and MEADE RIVER.
:!:

Technically, this is T.C. and Rick's unit only, not Magnum's. Magnum was a Navy SEAL involved in "mixed group" Special Ops missions with the covert MACV-SOG unit. However, he most certainly was partnered with the VMO-2 unit, and operated out of the Da Nang area and (probably) the Marble Mountain Air Facility at various times.

I never quite understood that myself. It would make sense for Rick and T.C. to be with VM02 since it was a Marine Corps aviation unit. It kind of always puzzled me as to why TM wore the VM02 cap. Of course, he also wore a cap with the seal team insignia. We know Rick and T.C. were Marines, but I always thought it was presented as TM being in the same unit. It had to have been a multi service joint task force.

Well based on the number of flashback scenes that show Magnum paired up with T.C. and Rick, it's safe to say that the VMO-2 unit supported Magnum many times (in transport, recon, air support, etc.). I'm sure the big guy felt close to the unit, especially since his best buds were involved in it. He wears the cap out of respect, and because he had such close ties with the unit.

Strange that Rick never wears that hat in the show (as far as I remember).
Can somebody tell me what the V of VMO-2 stands for?
