As I was running on the treadmill today I was for some reason thinking about an episode of MPI when it occurred to me that our friend and protagonist Thomas Magnum has helped many a soul exit Mother Earth to journey to the netherworld to meet their maker. I then asked my self "how in the heck many people has this dude killed?" Has anyone ever taken the time to tally up Magnum's body count? If so where does he stand?
Thanks for any help,
TQJ
A little on the morose side, but....

Interesting topic TQJ...
I think in ORDER to accurately count this up, we'd have to take several things into account.
1) If he shoots someone and we DON'T have visual evidence that they're moving, we count it as a kill.
2) If someone dies in his vicinity, but he has no hand in it (i.e. the grad student in "Dead Mans Channel"), no kill.
Some episodes are going to be harder than others (i.e. "All For One", "Mad Dogs and Englishmen")
I could TRY and take a stab at it, but it would take me a few months to cycle through the episodes

OK, so I lied....
Went through James' episode guide and here's what I came up with, based upon my recollections (I'm SURE this list is incomplete).
NOTE, I'm not going to count kills in Magnum's Vietnam years (when he served - not in "All For One") and only count what happened in the shows timeline.
Here goes!
Season 1:
"Don't Eat the Snow in Hawaii" - Philippe/Le Bull
"China Doll" - Choi
"Never Again...Never Again" - Lena (presumed)
"J. Digger Doyle" - Starguard operative (might have been Rick)
Season 2:
"The Woman on the Beach" - Henry Ellison
"Memories Are Forever" - Colonel Ki
"The Jororo Kill" - David Bannister
Season 3:
"Did You See The Sunrise" - Colonel Ivan (Mags really didn't like that rank!)
"The 8th Part of the Village" - Miyoshi's hitmen who broke into the estate
"Black On White" - Edwin Clutterbuck
Season 4:
"Let the Punishment Fit the Crime" - Eric DeForrest
"On Face Value" - The Kiedash brothers
Season 5:
"Under World" - "Gerald Calvin"
"Kiss of the Sabre" - numerous militants (as Sebastian Sabre)
"All For One" - Numerous Vietnamese
Season 6:
"Mad Dogs and Englishmen" - Numerous members of the "Higgolution"
"Way of the Stalking Horse" - Driscoll
Season 7:
"One Picture Is Worth" - Bank Robber(s)
"Death And Taxes" - Milton "The Ripper" Collins
"Novel Connection" - Paul Mayfield
"Limbo" - Warehouse gangster
Season 8:
"Tigers Fan" - Grady, The Captain, and their cronies
So, assuming the numerous kills in "All For One" and "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" are 5 apiece for Magnum, the grand total is........ (Until someone remembers another episode).
43!

That's a pretty good ball park estimation. It would be interesting to document T.M's confirmed kills, but there is no way I'm going through all 8 seasons to count.
All though Magnum is a fine citizen, after 40 some odd kills I would think that the authorities would at least revoke his hand gun permit, require him to pick some trash on the side of the road, or something.

This makes for a great addition to the 'Lists' section of the site...

Much thanks again, Tran Quoc and Doc!
I'm drawing a blank right now, but didn't Magnum kill Carol's stalker (Steve Elliott) in "Compulsion"?

Higgins: It's not a scratch! It's a bloody gouge!
I think he knocked him out when he jumped on him from the tree. I thought the same thing myself.James J. Walters wrote:This makes for a great addition to the 'Lists' section of the site...
