As I understand it the award is a recognition of actors/behind the scenes talent of Latin heritage whose positive contributions through their work creates a better image/impression of their ethnic group. Like Carl Reiner, the genius behind the Dick Van Dyke Show and Mel Brooks did for Jewish people.
But there must be many Latin actors more deserving of a nomination than Jay. He is not exactly a Michael Caine when it comes to acting.
Since Magnum is a big production for CBS that they hope catches fire like Hawaii 5-0, Jay's and the series itself's nomination is more likely to be a savvy ploy to
garner interest and publicity for the Imagen Awards.
But what the heck, an honor is an honor.

I would think it would be more likely it is the network pushing the show and Jay to the Imagen Awards . All award shows seem to have the studios spending money advertising and pushing to get there show or actor to win . Not to say that it is not mutually beneficial for both but it is just how award shows seem to work . It works the same way for the Oscars and the Emmys studios have taken out full page adds to push there show . As the saying goes it is a honor to be nominated and
this nomination puts the show and Jay in a good light which is good for the show no real downside to it .

My dislike for the new show totally aside... he is actually a pretty awful actor IMHO.

I would think much less then it cost to get Selleck nominated for a Emmy when he was Magnum .
