Ok the fact that I just posted back to back posts roughly a year apart tells me something......I watch too much Magnum and need to get a life lol.

Frannie Huddle tells Magnum that Walt plays gin with his buddy Norm. Walt is played by John Ratzenberger, Cliff from Cheers who's best friend was Norm. I half expected to see George Wendt when TM burst into the house where they were hiding out.

The name of William Daniels was also used in this episode. Best known for the movie 1776, he was in many Universal tv series back then and no doubt this is a nod to him.
Daniels and Hillerman did the same kind of character parts and resembled each other. Daniels is the only actor other than Hillerman I could see doing the Higgins role.

I noticed that Mr. Walters pointed this out early in this thread, but I just noticed while watching this episode today that Phil Hartman is voicing the narrative at the start of this episode. So fun. Another example of how I've been rewarded by giving Magnum another viewing.

Not a great one but not awful Pat Hingle was a good guest star just found the story kindve boring and predictable. The best parts for me:

Concur. The Patchismo / Pat Pants / Patty Bear / Pat Wax stuff made this episode. I can't help but laugh every time I see the scene in the guesthouse where they are watching TV and start talking about the brussels sprouts smell and then TC comes in with the tale of how Pat Wax took the paint off his van -- "I am talking DOWN TO THE METAL OFF!" Great parody of Amway. "The inmates started getting these rashes and smelling like vegetables... had to get myself put in solitary...!"

Other than that, this ep is pretty meh.

Oh and Hingle also appeared in an episode of 5-0 with John Hillerman about selling nuclear weapons to terrorists, so there's that.

YES, great observation. I am a HUGE Eastwood fan, so I also noticed him. He was in an earlier Magnum episode as well. Have to admit, the chase and fight scene with him and Selleck was pretty weak. The stuntman was obvious and the fight was not done well at all.

Just watched a rerun of this episode. It was not as bad as I remember but it still was lackluster. I think seasons 5 and 6 were the decline years for MPI.

And why did they need a stuntman to tackle a guy? I'm not exactly in shape but I could do it, and Selleck wasn't exactly fragile in the 80's.

One word: lawyers.

I'd add another: insurance.

To paraphrase John Hillerman (who wisely never did his own stunts), an actor like Selleck has to put his ego aside and let the double do their job, because if Selleck is injured, 150 people are suddenly out of work.

I noticed something on this episode after I saw it was directed by Vince McCeevety - he directed the Star Trek episode "Spectre of the gun" in which Chekov takes on the persona of Billy Claiborne - which is the name of Garwood's lawyer.

Co-incidence ? Probably.
I like the fact that John Ratzenberger's characgter has a friend called "Norm" just like in Cheers, and that Norm was played by the guy(Dic Durock) who dressed up as Imperious Leader in another Glen Larson production Battlestar Galactica.
Gripe ? Why was Nancy DeCarl playing a red head ? Booo ! Blondes rule.

This episode has a lot of Hollywood in jokes in it. The lawyer - spelled Harry Clayborn - makes a remark about his son being a actor. At the time the real life
Harry Clayborn was a Las Vegas lawyer to the stars, a mover and shaker among the Hollywood elite, pals with Carol Burnett etc.

The Magnumometer is a little inflated due to all the Aloha shirts and Tigers caps, but I think that's OK, for a classic episode like this one.

I like how Garwood dresses up like Magnum and it goes completely uncommented upon.
