Should I even be bringing up that Nesbitt is from Chicago, a city that just spent over $280 million dollars to replace just one CTA train station building on the red line where their is a station about every mile and a half and, made his money from airport parking with a company called The Parking Spot with yellow buses covered in polka dots. I don't have any faith on what is going to happen with the historic location......

Damn you Marty Nesbitt!

We've got a 3D computer model in SketchUp format, we've got numerous photos showing the house in different time periods, there may even be some architectural plans lying around somewhere. Is that enough to re-create it in exacting detail, either virtually or actually? If so, then we should find a way to collect all the data and keep it safe until the day when, hopefully, the property can be bought back and restored. (Of course, it's likely that the demolition would never have occurred, had we thought far enough ahead to start a fund to buy the house and turn it into a tourist site. Was that ever tried?) In any case, all we can hope for now is that the incoming development project fails, opening the way for a possible restoration. Either that, or pin our hopes on virtual reality.

So, what's the best way to archive the data in as great of detail as possible?

A friend and I talked of how fun it would have been to buy it and turn it into a B&B. It didn't occur to us to talk to others here.

In my opinion, a tourist site would have been an epic failure. Maybe a broader BnB experience would have had a chance if the right people had paid the right price, but highly unlikely.

The MPI connection was EXTERIOR, but the interior was totally different. If the interior would have been nearly the same, the immersive experience may have been more attractive, but a couple hundred tourists doing a tour and staying on the estate in a year would not have gotten the venture anywhere NEAR BREAKEVEN. Hawaii is too expensive to live in, operate in, or even visit.

I would've contributed to a fund, but any business would have been a pure passion play. It's not something that would make $$$ sense.

My $.02 as a financial modeler, real estate analyst/acquisitions specialist, and financial analyst.
Trust Me!!!

I just got back from O'ahu 2 weeks ago and (drum roll....) got a chance to swim in the tidal pool out back!! :magnum:  :higgins:

Yes it's sad that the estate is gone (of course the boathouse and the gatehouse are still standing, as well as the tennis court and I saw the volleyball net as well) but what a thrill to splash around and swim in the tidal pool!! As well as to sit and stand on that square stone structure in the tidal pool (the one that Zeus and Apollo hopped on to give Magnum his flip-flops) which is right across from the boathouse (guesthouse). Gotta be careful not to slip and hurt yourself on it though - it's slippery with all the algae growing on it. The surf was fairly strong when I was there (this was the week of Hurricane Hector, before Hurricane Lane) which was awesome because it created some nice waves inside the tidal pool, perfect for being swayed to and fro while I was laying on my back on the water and just taking it all in, as well as looking at the wonderful cliffs towering behind the estate! It was a nice sunny day with nice waves. I loved it! The great thing about the tidal pool is that the surf that would typically drag you out to sea doesn't do that there, thanks to the rock formations that surround the pool. Though there are 2 spots where there are no rocks and when I swam in those areas I could feel myself getting dragged out of the tidal pool. Due to the high surf the water level reached the steps that lead to the gate, so all that sandy beach space that Magnum or Higgins would be walking on out back was submerged. Basically the water level was all the way to the stone wall - the waves constantly splashing against the wall. I must have spent about 2 hours in that tidal pool - I honestly couldn't get myself to leave. It was awesome! Of course I just had to recreate Magnum's swim and breaking into the estate from the pilot episode - one of my favorite Magnum moments! :D Yes, I swam, then ran along the stone wall, then held my shoulder (old War injury, you know), then ran up the steps, checked for Zeus and Apollo, and then started fidgeting with the gate lock. :magnum: Alas I couldn't get it open and therefore couldn't get to the Ferrari  There's actually a video on YouTube with another Magnum fan who recreated this same scene from the pilot in the tidal pool. Anyway as I said the main house is no longer there which is sad and I got a chance to climb up on the stone wall and walk around on it to get a good view of the grounds. That black tarp that was up all around the property is no longer there so you get a clear view, with the exception of the vegetation that might be obstructing your view.

I was here on O'ahu 10 years ago and drove by the estate then when of course everything was still standing, but back then I didn't know there was beach access 2 properties over to the tidal pool. Furthermore I thought the tidal pool was private property. I didn't know it was all public. All ocean access in Hawaii is public, even if it's behind someone's house. You just can't go through their house or their property to get to it

I also got a chance to do the Magnum PI helicopter tour https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_1uCXcafIw and got to see some stunning views of O'ahu. Yes, I wore my red jungle bird Magnum shirt on this excursion! Unlike the chopper in this video ours was doors-off, so we really got a breathtaking and unobstructed view of everything. We felt the wind, the chills, the mist, everything! Highly recommended!! I initially didn't want to do a helicopter tour since I've always rented a vehicle while on the island and have pretty much covered the entire island between my 3 visits, but when I found out they had a Magnum helicopter tour I just HAD to do it! One of the pilots even looks like Magnum - Tigers hat, mustache, and all. They should have cast him in the reboot instead of this Hernandez joker.

Hello Kristy,

when are you on Hawaii?
We will be there on 1st October and I'll certainly swim in the tidal pool.

Hope that you don't mind the following information:

Pahonu:
Best if you are looking for Kaiona Beach Park (41-575 Kalanianaole Hwy, Waimanalo, HI 96795-1819)
You can park your car there , then go to the beach and turn right. You already see Rabbit Island and when walking further, you'll see the tidal pool and boathouse.
I recommend wearing water shoes

Waialae (Wai Alae) Beach Park (4925 Kahala Ave, Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii)
You can see the KKC Beach bar at the end of the parking lot when you walk towards the beach
Image

Turn right any you see the remote beach where you can see Magnum often jogging:

turn left and walk 5 minutes, you can see the Kahala resort where the other KKC Beach bar is located:

You can also see that beach in front of the Kahala, and you'll be surprised how often you can see that little island with the 5 palms in the background during the show. They've done a lot of shooting there:

As a general advise, when you park your car anywhere on the island, don't leave valuables inside!
Parking in Waikiki is quite expensive. Hotels easily charge you $ 25 - 35 per night.
You can park your car free of charge during the night at Honolulu zoo or

$7,-- for 10 hours overnight

Any further questions, please let us know.

Thanks! I will be there September 7-12. I will be with my sister, who has already laughed at me for insisting on visiting the tidal pool, so I won't be able to do a whole lot of Magnum location hunting.

So sad that Robins nest was torn down. Eve Anderson refused to get the property listed as a historic place. Heard her say she wanted to pay her taxes. Being registered as a historic place would have abated property taxes which she evidently wanted to pay.

It appears Eve let the home, particularly its interior, fall into disrepair. One wonders what that would have done to any attempt to have the property listed as a historic place.

Hi Bondtoys.de,

Slight correction in your tip for K Hale on how to reach the tidal pool. You don't want her to go to Waimanalo Beach Park (that's too far). The place is Kaiona Beach Park - it's a small beach park (but there is car parking so not to worry) and it's just 2 properties to the left of Robin's Nest if you're facing the front gate. Once you enter the ocean from there you just go 2 properties over to the right and voila... you're in the tidal pool!

Have fun, K Hale! I'm sure you'll have a blast, I know I did :D :magnum:
