What a coincidence! I insist on nearly that exact wording in my work contracts. (and some of my bank loans)J.J. Walters wrote:LOL!! Hillerman must have had it written in his contract: "I will not be carried down hill cliff stairs or seedy apartment building drain pipes draped over someone's shoulder... Never! You must use a pathetic dummy in my place!"

Re: The John Hillerman Thread
I just found this kind of interesting. I have counted what I believe are three separate shout outs, if you will, to John Hillerman's previous work.
In S5 "Fragments," Higgins says, "I knew we had a '76 copy of the Admiralty Club Annual somewhere, because Mr. Masters and I raced the Lucky Lady in the Transpac that year." In 1975 JH played the villain, mobster Christy McTeague, in the otherwise-forgettable Liza Minnelli/Burt Reynolds/Gene Hackman movie "Lucky Lady." In the movie, Lucky Lady was the name of a sailboat McTeague captured from the protagonists.
In S6 "Limited Engagement," T.C. wins the bingo tournament and tells Higgins, "l never won anything, since l won an Ellery Queen decoder ring when l was seven years old!" JH played radio detective Simon Brimmer in NBC's "Ellery Queen" in 1975-76.
In S5 "Kiss of the Sabre," T.C. (or the character Betty imagines him as) does this little trick with his pistol...

...which mirrors the little trick JH did with his revolver in "Blazing Saddles."

(My gifs don't seem to want to play... are they static for everyone else?)

I can see the gifs, though the last one (Blazing Saddles screen cap) is a bit small to see details.
Cool "Easter Eggs" from the original series!!!

This pic is no longer linked from Imageshack, does anyone have it? Apparently they are eating ice cream cones?Tralfaz wrote:Dear Jeff,N1095A wrote:Here's a nice picture I found online of John Hillerman, and Jeff MacKay.
It looks like Hillerman signed it for MacKay, but I can't make out what he wrote.
I've never looked thinner. Thank you for this moment.

Article from 1985 that I don't recall having seen before: "Taking Pride In Being Snide John Hillerman Cuts Loose With Verbal Barbs In 'Magnum, P.i.' Role"

Loved this one. It has a different angle. It's mainly about food for some reason. Hillerman can't stop talking about caviar AND gave the reporter his famous sure fire paella recipe! Beat that!

Also found this prize: an article from 1966 about a play JH appeared in in North Carolina... with photos. Not very good reproductions, but better than nothing.

Re: The John Hillerman Thread
Found an article from the Cincinnati paper in 1961. This is quite possibly the worst piece of writing I have ever seen in a newspaper, but it contains an interesting piece of history: Hillerman reading poetry at some beatnik coffee house. Also a little sketch of him and the guitarist who accompanied the reading.

From the Cincinnati Enquirer of 1960.
Who is that young fellow in the chair
With all that hair?
Why, that's John Hillerman there!
