What is the name of that book you mentioned about Nesbitt, his Vistria Group and the connection to Obama? I agree, it does stink to high heaven and I think that odor has reached Waimanalo. I find the purchase of Pahonu in early 2015 when there were at least some guidelines in place for older non protected homes interesting because by July 2015 those restrictions were no more....the pattern continues.....hmm.....I wonder if Obama had any influence here in his home state.
It also makes sense for the 3 yr delay........if they bulldozed it in August of 2015 the stench would've been so strong that the public would've realized what was going on right under their noses. This way there is enough time between the transaction and demolition that it doesn't point in their direction....just a theory.
To be fair....they may have tried to salvage the place, but the damage was too extensive to go ahead and they went with Plan B....knock it down and start again. I'm sure the true owner will officially surface in the next few years, but MM might find out sooner than that.
Hi Kenji..... I found Steves thread he didn't mention the name so I looked it up..

After watching that drone video of the estate I would say you have your work cut out for you.

I see that in the video the boat house (AKA "The guest House") was untouched so far. Hopefully it will get a reprieve! That would leave a little something for us Magnum fans to visit. I was lucky enough to get there in 2014 and the boat house was just as much of an attraction for me as the main house as it was such a pivotal part of the show. Time will tell.

How many scenes were actually shot in the main house? I seem to recall that the episode where Higgins is sick in a guest bedroom is filmed at the estate.
Hi eagle... I don't remember the episode with the Higgins bedroom but I'm pretty sure it was filmed at the studio.
I think Romer covers both Higgins bedrooms.

This is extremely sad to see!! At least my husband and I got a chance to see Pahonu in 2012!

I've been putting together some circumstantial evidence that Obama has connections to the sale, which I will post later.
I don't know whether or not Nesbitt had a hand in the change in Hawaii's preservation laws, but you know he didn't purchase Pahonu without legal counsel and he absolutely knew that once he was the owner there was nothing that could legally stop him from doing whatever he wanted.
And as I also mentioned earlier, I think he may've sat on it for PR reasons. Can you imagine if he had done this right after he bought it? He let things settle for a few years and then bulldozed her.

Looking forward to hearing what you have in the circumstantial evidence dept., I'm sure it will be good with plenty of valid connections to Marty etc.!
I'm not saying Nesbitt did have a hand in the rules changes (no actual proof), but boy, talk about timing......coincidental or not....Pahonu is lost and nothing can bring it back. Again, for all we know it's Obama who is the owner and Marty is just the front guy and it's Barack pulling the strings which has been played out by a few other US Presidents for whatever reason. Maybe there was some insider info leaked that this rule change was coming down the pipe and buying the place and ripping it down wouldn't be a problem.....a guess at best as we don't have the inside scoop. Maybe it's Obama's place and he influenced a few political people in Hawaii when the rule was changed, another guess/no proof and we will never know for sure. Maybe this rule change never even came into play when the purchase was made....they just wanted the place or location no matter what. I am surprised that 10 or even 20 years ago Pahonu wasn't registered and protected as the place is FULL of history on many levels. I'm guessing Eve didn't want the hassle or the extra costs that go with owning a protected building while she owned it. I'm wondering if she is as upset as us that it was demolished and kicking herself for not getting Pahonu on the protection list! I remember when the sale went down Mary Worrall (Eve's realtor) mentioned that the new owner wanted to restore it or not make many changes...something like that, and maybe that's why Eve signed off on it.....fast forward to today and Pahonu is no more. Granted if nothing was in writing and there was no State historical protection in place, then the owners do have a right to change their minds even if it kills the people looking in from the outside.

Re: The Robin Masters Estate (Pahonu)
Let‘s not forget that Pahonu was on the market for many months and noone snapped it.
So evidently there was nobody willing to buy the property and keep the house for that price.
If or not Nesbitt had hands in changing the rules is pure speculation.
We are all upset that this has happened but the lack of buyers has been an indicator what was bound to happen sooner or later.

Must say though, I wish someone had sent a drone over that close and in that much detail over the last few years when the house was still there!
I agree steveadl. According to the drone pilot, it seems his/her intent was actually to capture the state of Pahonu in all her glory, but didn't realize that the demo was already occurring when it came time to record the video. At least that's what I get from the comments made on this facebook page:

Just glad I was also able to make the pilgrimage to the estate a few years ago (before the sale) and at least sneak some peeks in person. Never thought it would end up in a pile of rubble, that's for sure.

Hi Sam,
There is no way we can prove there is a connection with the rule change theory, but finding out who the real owner is will eventually come out and I'm sure one of us at MM will find the answer. It could very well be Marty - end of story, but the rumor mill is still buzzing with the Obamas being the true owners so it will be fun to look at the clues and figure out who it is or shall we say in this case whodunit....was it Marty in the courtyard with a sledge hammer or Barack with an excavator.
Maybe one of the trades working on the place will slip up.....time will tell.

KENJI, I think this is what you're referring to (the second circled paragraph). I want to once again point out the first circled paragraph... NESBITT IS NOT KAMA'AINA (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kama%27aina) and from what I've researched he has NO ties to Hawaii (except Obama), and has never lived there... BUT OBAMA IS KAMA'AINA. There is no way Mary Worrall, who has been in real estate on Oahu for decades and whose family has been on Oahu for five generations, would make the mistake in calling Nesbitt "kama'aina".KENJI wrote: I'm wondering if she is as upset as us that it was demolished and kicking herself for not getting Pahonu on the protection list! You are very right to point out Mary's slip up too. Marty is definitely NOT kama'aina! The plot thickens!!!

Re: The Robin Masters Estate (Pahonu)
In that press release Mary also said the owner was "intent on maintaining the estate as once parcel" which, in hindsight, may've ben a clue that they planned to demolish her from the beginning. If they were planning on not demolishing her, then my assumption is they would've said that instead of just commenting on keeping the estate as one parcel. Regardless, according to this, all parties involved probably knew Pahonu's fate from the getgo ...

One more thing of interest (KENJI
pointed this out)... the Mortgage specifically says the "Mortgagor may demolish and/or renovate all or any portion of the Improvements currently located on the Premises."

Re: The Robin Masters Estate (Pahonu)
I stirred the pot and am skeptical because I am from Chicago where the"Chicago Way" is embedded in our politics and large real estate transactions. Four out of our last seven Governors went to Prison, one just got out .and another is still in, plus untold numbers of Congressman, Commissioners and Alderman.
Our current Governors race is two billionaires that will be spending and estimated one billion dollars on the race. One candidate is; JB Pritzker, brother of Penny Pritzker both of the Hyatt Hotel fortune. Penny is the woman that got Marty Nesbitt started in business (parking garages). She was named Commerce Secretary by President Obama and has untold influence in local, national and international politics.
During the primaries the Chicago Tribune got a hold of secret Government recording between JB Pritzker and Rod Rod Blagojevich, our ex Governor still in prison for trying to sell Barack Obama's Senate seat when he became President.
I could go on and on but don't want this to turn into conspiracy theories, but I did e-mail a local news station in Oahu that the entire sequence of events stinks to high heaven with the Hawaiian legislature and the Building Industry Association.....

Re: The Robin Masters Estate (Pahonu)
Here's more circumstantial evidence that Obama is the owner or perhaps part owner.
We know that the owner "Waimanalo Paradise" got their mortgage through Hoaloha Holdings out of Colorado.
Here's the first page of the mortgage...

In 2015 various news organizations printed Hoaloha Holdings' articles of incorporation when Pahonu was sold. KENJI had been investigating the agent, Thomas G. Kennedy...

Well, take a look at who the agent on record is now for Hoaloha Holdings... David T. Pietsch III...

David Pietsch’s father (David Pietsch Jr.) worked for Obama's grandmother...
Honolulu Advertiser, Nov 15, 2008...

David Pietsch III's aunt (Pietsch Jr's sister-in-law) is Judge Coral Wong Pietsch, who was nominated by Obama...

I know this is circumstantial and Obama may've just referred Nesbitt to Pietsch III, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
