Re: The Robin Masters Estate (Pahonu)
Anyone on location who can pick up some Pahonu bricks for me, please

Re: The Robin Masters Estate (Pahonu)
Actually, the lot value is: land + demo. costs. Not to mention the other fees/costs/time, etc.KENJI wrote:I remember when the place was listed they hinted the price was more lot value than anything as the place was a complete gut on the inside.....well, it was just confirmed..... the Nesbitts/Obamaspaid lot value!
Not many parcels of land with that much water frontage available anymore. If you want THAT MUCH dirt with a view AND the house you want, you have to do it the way they did here...
Man, the temptation to make a joke tied to the political connection is almost too much to resist....

Trust Me!!!

Oh I'm with you on the additional costs involved Kevster!Kevster wrote:Actually, the lot value is: land + demo. costs. They always say it's cheaper to start from scratch, then try and renovate something of this age. It would be interesting to see what the final numbers and cost overruns tally up too for the new place, after paying $9+million for the lot (lot, tax, demo, removal, plans, permit fees, etc., etc.) before even getting out of the ground

Re: The Robin Masters Estate (Pahonu)
I keep thinking of the scene in "A Little Bit of Luck... A Little Bit of Grief", where the city comes in with permit in hand and tears down T.C.'s Tiger's "12th Avenue Clubhouse"! Magnum and T.C. made a valiant effort to save it. And Stephen King's great novel Roadwork, where a man takes a stand against his home being demolished by the government (in the name of "Eminent domain") to make way for a highway. We need to organize, file an injunction, form a human chain... something!

Well, I continue to be the bearer of horrible news here. I just heard back from a contact who knows Eve and her family... I emailed him earlier today and told him of the permit to demolish Pahonu and here is a copy/paste of part of his message back to me...
"Thanks for the heads up re Pahonu. But no sooner were permits issued then the crane arrived and buildings are already leveled to the slabs. I guess they didn’t want any possibility of protesters or demonstrators on the highway. Poof... and 86 years of history is turned into dust."

Found this video showcasing the estate, presumably made by a realtor when it was for sale a few years ago.

At least we'll always have the pics/videos/tv episodes of our Robin's Nest
RIP, Pahonu

Magnum, remember what I told you about Robin Masters?
I lied.

Thank you for posting the vid/link. Had not seen that before that I recall, and I hope I can figure out a way to save it to my HD!
Wouldn't it be nice if they just built new structures replicating the old, but all new construction? Yea....I'm not holding my breath either....

Re: The Robin Masters Estate (Pahonu)
I remember someone asked JJ to add it to the video section but I don't see it there so maybe he can capture it and add it now?
