International Marketplace closed

Unfortunately, one of the most iconic places in Waikiki is closed down and destroyed: the international marketplace. Magnum was here in the Laura-episode (7.18). The place wil be replaced with more expensive shops......

I had no idea, that's a shame :( I bought my gold chain there on my visit to Oahu.

Here's an article for those interested: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/0 ... 32155.html

It doesn't make any mention of where the vendors may have moved to, does anyone know? I know some of the vendors had been there for many years. I would imagine they would try to find another destination to set up, albeit likely not in as high a traffic location as the International Marketplace was.

Hi Steveadl,

Many of the vendors have moved just a few blocks down the road in a back alley. I believe it's called Duke's Lane. It's much smaller and the vendors are really wedged in there to the point that you feel like you are walking into an oven. It's border line a fire hazard in my books. We almost walked right by it, very non descript from the road, definitely not the same feel as the I.M. (banyan tree, waterfall etc.), but the products are the same.

Thanks for the info. Kenji. I can remember walking down Dukes Lane after my visit to the IMP. Good to hear the stalls still exist, albeit in not as good a location.

Can see them set up on Google Maps https://www.google.com.au/maps/@21.2788 ... CLjUMw!2e0

That's the place Steveadl! At night time they have loads of spot lights on and the many of the booths have tarps over top so it can get pretty hot in there!!!

Sam is right....they have been there before the closure. I'm sure some of the vendors moved over there from IMP. That is the closest you will get to the old IMP experience in Waikiki or you can say it is small taste of the IMP. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the old IMP space. I've seen a few drawings, but it's not the same as seeing the real thing. It won't be long.

Hi Sam,

I couldn't think of any either but then it hit me...maybe HW was referring to the new HF0? I believe there were a couple scenes filmed there.

Another little piece of the old Waikiki gone :(

Hey Fat Jack,

Welcome to the board..That could certainly be the case.I've seen less than half of the new HFO episodes and it's totally possible it was shown in the original run.Not saying I'm right.I don't remember any.
