Always glad to see new folks signing up. Been quite a few recently. Maybe there's something just beyond the horizon about to dawn concerning MPI? :magnum: The "natural order" of things has a way of preparing the "stage" for upcoming events, even before we know there's anything about to happen. Just an observation.... :)
Thanks, 308GUY (nice wheels!) Yes, I noticed quite a few new folks recently and now someone else today. Maybe it has to do with the press Pahonu is getting now...web searches are landing people here? I like your thoughts better, though!
308GUY wrote:Hope you've had a chance to check out rubber chickens' "guide".... an indispensable tool for looking around the islands and pinpointing filming locations from the show, and from what I can tell, a great way to help plan out a personal visit for those who manage it.
I checked it out a while back but not extensively. There's so much! Thanks for the reminder, I'll definitely check it out in depth before I go this summer to plan my excursions. Do you know if Rubber Chicken is still interested in new locations for future updates? If so, I have the location of the Italian Villa at the beginning of Italian Ice. I stayed in a house by it a couple years ago and couldn't figure out why it seemed so familiar. Then I saw Italian Ice a few weeks ago and it hit me!

You're welcome RG!

All I can tell ya, is take lots of pics! You can always send rc a private message and see if there's anything in particular he's looking for or wants to add, that you may be able to check out/provide while there.

Check out Steve from Australia's pics of when he took the chopper ride in the "flying easter egg", (official Magnum PI version of the Hughs500D chopper giving tours/rides) while there last year, I believe. GREAT pics and story! If I was real good at search, or had more time at the moment, I'd find and provide a link to the thread. Good stuff! :magnum: Maybe one of the older/more experienced members can do that for you, or you are better at searching than me. 8)

I am fairly new here myself, but haven't found anywhere on the net with better folks, or any forum better organised and run. :D

Thanks Styles! The Carol Burnett show was also a favorite of mine growing up so I thought it would be a fun handle. Glad it wasn't taken!

Thanks for the welcome!

I found the pics, 308GUY, thanks! Wow, amazing photographs! They truly gave me chills. What a fantastic flight that must’ve been. But wouldn’t that also be fun to be in the tidal pool, hear a chopper approaching, and there goes TC’s chopper buzzing past!!!

By the way, any of you who might be headed over to Oahu (golf & AJLeatherman) etc – I just saw that Paradise is having an online special now, $185/pp including tax & fuel surcharge! 8)

Hi and thank you for the welcome! :D

The address of the "Villa" is 1610 Mokulua Dr., Kailua, which is the southern tip of Lanikai. If you type that address in Google maps it's the long property hugging the shore (circled on image below.) Unfortunately the 6 or so homes there are behind a security gate so you can't drive up to it (unless you rent one of the homes there like we did.) You could also rent kayaks in Kailua and paddle toward the Mokes (the Mokulua Islands) but instead hug the coast and paddle over to the small beach to the left of the Villa. Even though the houses there are behind the security gate all beaches in HI are public so you can view the house nicely from there. I assume the interior portions were shot in a studio?

When I get a chance I'll post this info under the Italian Ice episode.

RG: That's really cool info on the "villa" site, thanks for sharing.

Glad you enjoyed the pics Steve posted from his visit, thought you might! :magnum:

Just don't forget to take and post your own for all us po-folk that'll never get to the islands ourselves! :D

Hi RG,
Thanks for the info and welcome aboard!
Do you have the contact info for renting one of the villas? It looks like a very nice spot for a future holiday.
Here is some additional info on this location that might interest a few of us. http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1610- ... 3248_zpid/
It was sold in 2012 for $1.2million.
Use the birds eye view on this link and you can see around the outside of the place a little more.

Lanikai!!! WoW! I got it now. That is a wonderful place. I've been there few hours when I visited Oahu almost 2 years ago. Once in Kailua (another amazing beach there) I walked down to the Lanikai's beach.
I've also seen some great photos of that villa on Google Earth now.
The villa is located at Wailea Point (southern tip of Lanikai and beginning of Waimanalo Bay). Behind that corner there is the 'Bellows Air Force Base', a military installation off limits to the public.
So the "land" that we see in the background of the frame is actually Rabbit Island.

Thank you again RG :D

Hi Kenji!

Thank you for the welcome! :D

I’d be happy to give you the contact info. A little background first. The homes behind the security gate are owned by the man who started JN Automotive Group in Honolulu, Joe Nicolai. First there’s the Italian Ice “Villa” which isn’t a rental, the main house that Joe's son and family live in, a house that Joe’s sister and husband live in, and the three rentals. When we stayed there in 2012 Joe’s sister was the contact for the rentals. However, she told us that unfortunately Joe had Parkinson’s and his son was taking over the automotive business, and the son’s wife, Gina, was taking over coordinating rentals. You'll see her name as the contact for the rental listings below.

I also see on zillow that one of rentals shows as being sold last year (the one we stayed in), but it's still in the family. Maybe Joe’s son bought him out on one/some of the properties? I assume that’s the same for the Villa…it’s still in the family.

Anyway, I took a screen shot of the zillow bird’s eye view and labeled the rentals and the vrbo listings for each rental are below the photo. The main house and Joe’s sister’s house aren’t in this picture.

It was an absolutely wonderful place to stay, Kenji! We'd definitely stay there again!

Many thanks RG!!
I see what you mean - truly incredible! I'll be contacting them for sure the next time we go to Oahu. I've seen a few other pics and it looks like the driveway goes under each rental via a breezeway leading up to the Italian Ice Villa which is clever (yes/no). Did you kayak over to the Mokes?
Rubber Chicken will be pleased with your find!

Yep, exactly...the driveway goes under the two rentals via a breezeway. We were in the "cottage" rental so the people going to/from the Villa and the other rental (plus gardeners/caretakers) were driving under our house on a regular basis but we never heard the cars from inside the house. It seemed to me there were quite a few people living in the Villa and they were back & forth a lot. If you have young children like we do you do have to be careful because of this when crossing the driveway, but no one drove fast through there :D

We didn't kayak over to the Mokes because we (ok, I) didn't want to take our little ones in the kayaks (I know, life vests, etc. but I'm the overly over-protective type, lol!) As you can see from the location of the rental, the Mokes were practically in our laps anyway 8)

Definitely a wonderful location, Kenji!

It's better to play on the safe side when dealing with the kids.....maybe when they are older they can paddle you out to the Mokes!

Now that's a great idea!

I was just reading your Waimanalo post from a few weeks ago that you were headed to Hawaii at the end of February. Did you go to Oahu? And if so, where did you stay if you don't mind sharing. Another if so, did you go to Pahonu? I see someone posted today that there's no beach at Pahonu. I was there in July 2012 and there was definitely beach then. Maybe the term "beach" is subjective, lol! Here's a photo I took from the tidal pool. Anyway, I'd love to hear about your visit, Kenji!

Great pic RG!

Have seen many different people take and post that same picture in one form or another. I have to wonder (having NOT been there myself..) if when, one is standing/sitting/walking/wading in front of that gate and wall, if there's a little part of you that half expects to see TM or JQH come walking through at any moment.. Of course, I know that is rediculous and out of touch with reality, but it's just that the scene seems SO familiar, and having one of them in it so natural, it must at least cause a quickened pulse for a millisecond! :magnum:
