New Team Ring on ebay.

Re: New Team Ring on ebay.
Hey 308GUY,
I think there are a number of other places you could get one relatively price effective.
Not sure we'll see Kimo back here after the backlash/suprise twist from a few weeks ago, so you may want to check it out on your own. I saw one on eBay for around $150 that looks fairly authentic, as you want to keep the prices down.
PM me, and let me see what I can find for you

@308GUY
The best rings out there are (imho) the ones sold by A Lighter Side, and they are more affordable than Robbie's (though still too expensive for me).
I don't know if ALS still manufactures them but I would try that way for a gold ring.
@Doc Ibold
Which "surprise twist" are you referring to exactly?

Re: New Team Ring on ebay.
An update to the ring situation:
Robbie has introduced a new ring on his new website: http://hollywoodrobbie.weebly.com/magnum-pi-items.html
It is made from a gold colored alloy, and for all practical purposes, looks very much like gold.
The ring itself is a very accurate representation of those worn by the guys on the show, in most of the seasons, I've noticed. I think we all know that there were different versions of the ring during the 8 years the show was on the air, but Robbie has captured the essence of what the ring is/was, at least to me.
I have rings by other jewelers and they are nice in their own way, but none of them "match" as perfectly as the newest version offered by Robbie.
Robbie has obviously spent many hours working out the details of these rings and the results are obvious when you see it. The picture on his website doesn't really do it justice, in my opinion. I love mine, and wear it daily.
Just wanted to let anybody who might still be looking for the "right" COL ring, you can stop looking as far as I'm concerned, this is the one! Unless you want to have one custom made (I checked on having that done locally, $2,000), or put out the money for one made of actual gold from one of the other jewelers that offer them (at LEAST $800), you won't find one that looks as good and matches the ones from the show as closely, as this one from Robbie. At $200 (+shipping) it is the best deal out there, IMHO.
Thanks Robbie for making these available to all us die-hard fans!

Re: New Team Ring on ebay.
One last "update" to my quest for a team ring I'm happy with.
I really like the one I got from Robbie, but after wearing it a while, the epoxy coating on the inside of the ring started to wear away and it will leave a green ring on your finger. It still looks great, but is "lighter" than you'd think it should be, I believe that's due to the face being "hollow" on the backside, which I'm guessing is done to save material. All in all, I'm not complaining about the ring. The craftsmanship is great, as is the look, but after having and wearing it a while, I'd have to say it is more for show than go.
I finally bit the bullet and had a talented local jeweler make me one from scratch. I think it's beautiful, and I'm very satisfied and happy with it. My search is over. This is not only a memento of the show that I can have with me anytime I want, but an authentic piece of valuable jewelry that will only increase in value and something that I can hand down to my son's when the time comes. I didn't go "hog wild" as it's just 14 karat, but it has substantial weight and mass and reminds me how much I enjoy MPI everytime I see it on my finger.
Some will say, "Ridiculous", and a waste, but I, and none of us are getting any younger, and if you don't get/have some of the things that make you smile, maybe they aren't that important to you after all. I decided this was to me, so I got it done and I'm not sorry. It wasn't cheap, but it was a third less than the Lighter Side quote I got last time I was in contact with them. So much for "justification through rationalization."....besides....my little voice TOLD me to do it!
Anyway, I could have put the same money toward getting to the island, which I'm always complaining I'll probably never get to do, but that gives me something else to shoot for, the ring is a done deal
Anyway, here's a couple pics of it, since I can't post pics of my trip to Oahu, but we have KENJI and all the rest who have shared their trips for that!

You have a very nice ring there 308GUY!
You don't have to justify your purchase either....if it brings you personal pleasure it's worth it.....to each his own. Too funny, I don't have a ring so thanks for sharing the ring pics....I'll dig up a few more Oahu pics for you later!

Re: New Team Ring on ebay.
Hi 308Guy,
I think your ring looks great and your jeweler has a lot of talent. I imagine the initial design/attempts are probably the hardest part for the jeweler when creating a ring from scratch.
Now that he/she has done so, making more is likely much easier.
Perhaps the jeweler might make more then? I imagine he could make quite a few sales to the posters here, maybe me too depending on price.
I assume there are no board rules here prohibiting such commerce.
Anyway 308, enjoy your ring.

Re: New Team Ring on ebay.
Thanks for the comments and support guys. As I said, I'm comfortable with the situation, or I wouldn't have done it in the first place. Just thought I'd share with folks that have similar interests.
Yes, the jeweler can make more, as he told me after having created the file, he has it stored and would be no problem to reproduce. I just doubt very many others would be willing to put out what it would be, but then again, Lighter Side did see the practicality of putting them on their site and offering them for sale. Anybody that thinks they might be interested, shoot me a pm or email and we'll talk.
When I contracted him to do it, I told him I wasn't in a hurry, so he took his time and did a great job, in my opinion. He did two different wax models before casting the final piece. He called me in after the first one and I made a few changes, then he did the second one and called me in again, for my approval, which I gave. He actually took some of my personal gold and put the value toward the production cost of the ring, that's one of the things that made it more possible for me to do.
KENJI: I enjoy every picture you post, so don't be shy and feel free to share!

I'd have to guess you're right, but I can't even venture a guess. I can find out if you like.
BTW, this is NOT the jeweler I mentioned some time ago who wanted two grande to do the same thing, this guy was about half that, give or take a little. Lighter side was around $1800 last time I checked, and Robbie would do it in gold and is probably comparable, but I liked it being local to me, and I had input to the finished product. Last time I looked at Robbie's site, he was offering the ring in gold, but you had to send him 29oz. of gold and then if I remember correctly he will do the ring for around $400. Don't quote me, as I'm relating what I remember from the site and it's been a while since I looked at it.
He (my jeweler) is not available now until after the 5th of Sept., but like I said, if anyone should be interested, I can get prices after that. I would guess silver is going to be considerably less, and not sure if he can/will do brass, but it's gotta be cheaper too. He did give me the option between 10k and 14k the difference being about $200. This guy is a genuine artist, he does allot of custom work, this ring was kind of boring for him I'm sure. When he first finished it, he hadn't put the black enamel in yet, the background was recessed under the cross with a textured finish, and it really did look good, but after he called me in to look at it, I had him go ahead and put the black in to match the team ring look. But I gotta tell ya, it looked really classy all in gold!

Anyway, should anybody want more info, like I said, shoot me a pm or email.
