Love this ep. 2 beautiful women. France sure do have sum nice tropical foliage and their night do appear warm... Major film Flub; OK. So we see the roller cruising past the very same 60 in a circle (fake French) road sign and the same banana grove twice within a few seconds. How can?! This is Kamehameha Hiway beyond Kaneohe on the way to La'ie. So digger pulls a gun on TM and Hig. Then calls Masters. Higgy listens to RM for a moment then hangs up. Proceeds to go into a minutes long diatribe explaining Digger's presence. HOW did he glean all that from a few moments on the line with RM? Unless of course, he was filling in the blanks from previous knowledge learned from his numerous conversations with RM. Higgy is really taking the high road here in accepting the blame wholly. Over 200 acres?! I don't think so. And the 5 acre main compound seems exaggerated. The Cooke estate is larger and it is just under 5 acres. Woops the WW2 soldier comment was quite indiscrete and thoughtless. yes, She does take pleasure in belittling people. She really could perform her function just as well sans insults. When she explains via the fake exaggerated phoney unreal dumb map she has of the birds eye view of the area, she gesticulates quite wildly, while telling them I want stuff that costa lot and sounds hi tech everwhere and here and here and the most likely approaches to the compound. hmmm. methinks an akamai boogular would not attempt to gain entry via "the most likely approaches to the compound"
The dialogue contains some refreshingly fun and maybe even sparkling repartee. One of my faves.
Is every vahine that serves alcohol named Luanna?! They have 2 in this ep. What a clunky name. The least they could do it choose something local and exotic sounding. "Im not that good of an actress. I think you are". Boyyy oh boy Is TM working her to the hilt! As they observe lazeronics, foley work is going overtime. Thick tropical rainforest bird b.g. sound effects much more (and inappropriate) than you would hear even at manoa falls. Now why would Digger while in enemy territory with cameras abound, sneeze. Hard to believe she has not trained herself to learn to stifle that. One of the funniest scenes is where TM or TM's stuntie, is carrying what is obviously a lightweight dummy. And apparently a bolohead one at that.
"I'm lost to grasp why this episode was rated so highly." Ratings by individual viewers is very subjective. And personal and individual. All a matter of taste.
or; "Rating episodes is over rated." take your pick. I never understood the concept.

For me the ultimate evidence that Higgins is NOT Robin Masters:

Higgins is alone, the red phone rings and Higgins expects that Robin is on the line. Instead, Magnum calls because "that number is the only one that he can remember".

I wish they never tried to keep the public guessing in the later series about whether Higgins is Robin Masters. It is completely idiotic that someone hires a person to live on their multi million dollar private estate in Magnum, but then never meets the person over the course of 8 years.

I suppose Robin Masters has better things to do with his time than to waste it by visiting his estate on the water.

The writers seem to run out of material in the last year and were trying to wrap it up with less effort put into this series. I don't bother with the last three episodes in Season 8, the actors seem lethargic and tired, all of them.

But we never see Robin Master's face, we only hear his voice. And, if Magnum actually met Robin, how come Magnum thinks that Higgins is actually Robin Masters?

Magnum thinks that Higgins writes the novels under the name Robin Masters. As he says in "Paper War", Robin Masters is Higgins's nom de plume, his pen name. Magnum thinks that the man the world knows as "Robin Masters" is actually "some little guy with a voice like Orson Welles and a body like Truman Capote", that was hired by Higgins to pose as Robin. The theory goes that Higgins did this because he didn't want to sully his family name (by being a tawdry pulp novelist). Magnum believes that Higgins is actually the "boss" (instead of a major domo), the "man behind the curtain" so to speak.

Watched this episode again last night on DVD. It has its moments but something about Erin Gray is abrasive and annoying. Yes, she has a beautiful face but the character she plays is deceitful and stuck up. It seems members here rave about her but I have known many women in my life who have the beauty but are very shallow people, she strikes me that way in this episode.

And, after pulling some treachery on Magnum to get into the estate she pulls a gun and points it at Higgins and Magnum, what a lovely way to expose the security flaws.

I completely agree with Sisophous! "Digger" is a thorough pain in the arse! A man hating, turbo-tart with low self esteem.

Other than that, I reckon it's one of the best episodes. Great to see Robin Masters actually appearing in the show. The rescue of JQH at the OMEGA Station is a ripper! When you look closely, you can see it's a dummy on Tom Selleck's back as they climb the stairway.

That sneeze at Laseronics was way phoney. It just doesn't add up thhat she didn't do it on purpose. If that was supposed to be a genuine sneeze the actress is awful at her job.

Something to keep in mind, "security expert" does not necessarily equal "extraction specialist". Digger may be good at securing and defending locations academically, so a snatch and grab is something I'd think she'd be used to working on from the other side lending to her inexperience and uncomfortableness in rescuing Higgins.

When Higgins is driving the Audi (around the 27:00 mark), just after he yells, "Look out!" and before he stops the car, several film crew members (and a big 'ol camera) can be seen briefly off the side of the road. Pretty funny.

I like this episode even with the little flubs that no one really would notice the first time.

However, the entire plot is goofy. Why not just call ahead and have Magnum drive the tapes to the airport? Why all the cloak and dagger? Or better yet, why not have them shipped to where ever?
