I am totally crazy! Visiting the Anderson Estate only

#1 Post by Higgins (aka Bondtoys) »

Long time Magnum P.I. fan (<25yrs) and it was always one of my dreams to see the Anderson estate and take a dip in the tidal pool.

To be honest, I am not sure, how long the estate will be like we know it, Mrs. Anderson is not getting any younger and I think, that it's time finally to go to there soon.

We will be in San Francisco mid of december and I'd like to ask, if someone has advise on cheap flights and affordable hotel on Oahu.

Don't laugh at me, so far, I am only planning 3-4 nights on the island as North Shore and the estate are basically the only places, I am really interested.

Actually, the estate and pool are the only reasons, why we take the long way to Germany again. We have been to California last year, so, don't really need to go to there again - although we liked it a lot there.

But you guys are welcome to convince me to stay longer on the island.

Thanks

"It's a great place, you'll love, it it's got everything."

Seriously, Waimanalo and area offers a lot of Magnum p.i. sight seeing: The Estate, Makai Pier, Shriners Beach Club, etc.

Rubber Chicken has quite the extensive sight seeing guide:

Also, check out Wayde's World: Poor Mans Guide to Hawaii

Wayde know all about cheap flights etc. and can connect you with the right people so you don't "break the bank" on your trip.

I envy you. I have been to Hawaii twice, but never to Oahu, so my next trip will be there to at least go by the Anderson Estate.

"Affordable" is a relative term. If you're really on a budget, I'd totally recommend the Royal Grove in Waikiki. It's definitely a no frills type of place, but it's right next to all the big hotels where you'd pay a fortune and only a block from the beach. You'll probably spend all day out and about so a luxury room is a waste as far as I'm concerned (unless you're on your honeymoon!). I stayed there with my wife and son and we paid only about $500 for a week back in '08!

Thank you for the wealth of information so far!
I paerticularly like the hint for the Royal Grove.

The irony ios, that I can get rooms at the Hawaii Fairmont hotels for US$ 99,-- a night, but they don't have a hotel on Oahu.

Any advise - please keep them coming!

Thanks

You've got to book a few nights at the Orchid. For 99 bucks a night, you'd be nuts to be so close and not to do it!

hmmmm, going to there means island-hopping, another rental car and much more. My budget squeaks....

Update: For the Fairmont Orchid, I am paying only US$ 89,-- per night :(
How do I get from Oahu to Hawaii? Ferry?

We stayed at the Orchid on the Big Island last year.

Some of the most snorkling in Hawaii is right off their beach. We went to Oahu and Kauai as well... but none of the other snorkling compared to sitting on the beach at the Orchid, watching whales breach out at sea and snorking with sea turtles and chasing fish around. Highly recommend it.

Flights with Hawaii Air are the cheapest way to island hop.

Nice!
So envious! 8)

Yeah, you'll love it. I think one of the best jobs in the world would be being one of those guys who hand out snorkel gear and towels to the guests... so cruisy.
