IMO, unless Memories are Forever is included........then the mythos of Magnum is not properly introduced. For the entirety of the show's run, Michelle was always part of Magnum....be it in body, mind, or spirit. We learn that he is not some man slut, but rather a man of substance who truly loved someone. To me, it gives us the basis to understand that he can care, can be loyal, and will stop at nothing to protect those important to him.........something that I think we find intoxicating about the show in general. Magnum lost his wife too many times, but in the very end of the series he has his daughter that came from Michelle.

Without this episode(s)...........Magnum is not properly defined.

in short.......if you were trying to describe Magnum the character and why he is worth watching/caring about...............I don't think this episode misses much.

Excellent point, yet, to a certain extent, that's the reason why I didn't include them. I don't think there's enough room in 10 episodes and IMO the TM/Michelle dynamic is too complicated to just touch on.

If there were 5 more episodes to work with I'd include Memories Are Forever, Little Girl Who and Resolutions. Heck, with even two I may consider Little Girl Who and Unfinished Business because flashbacks can fill in the rest. I know, it's almost contradictory, because it's only two episodes, but I don't think they'd add more than taking The Jororo Kill and Paper War out would take away.

I think the other episodes showcase the "knight errant" character of TM perfectly and those interested enough to watch the series will get the bonus plotline of TM/Michelle/Lily which will make the series that much fuller/fresher/well rounded.

It is a good debate and perhaps my not being all that thrilled with the Michelle character plays a lot into the choices . . .

OK. Here's my take: Universal is putting this out for two reasons. First to sell the package. And second, to lure more people into buying every season. For that reason, and the fact that we know there are 10 episodes, I predict there will be one show from each season. I doubt they really thought about trying to sum up the whole series in the package. Probably more a showcase of the best stand alone episodes.

Here's what I think they'll be:

1) Don't Eat the Snow in Hawaii 1 (1.1)
2) Don't Eat the Snow in Hawaii 2 (1.2)
3) The Jororo Kill (2.13)
4) Ki'i's Don't Lie (3.3) Perhaps they'll include the S&S episode as a bonus to promote the other series or maybe they'll do the alternate ending used in syndication.
5) Home From the Sea (4.1)
6) Mac's Back (5.3)
7) The Kona Winds (6.4)
8) Death and Taxes (7.6)
9) Resolutions 1 (8.12)
10) Resolutions 2 (8.13)

I see we'll disagree. The whole TM/Michelle dynamic can be summed up in this episode. We find out about Magnum's history a bit.......a question any viewer asks themselves while watching. He carries his Vietnam baggage with him everywhere, from the hats, to the ring, and his friends. Like her or not, she defines the character and what shaped the man he becomes in a LARGE way.....something that deserves to be explained to a casual viewer.

this episode would go a long way to hook someone..........something I think the package wants to do.

Finally......how can you have Resolutions, and not know the backdrop?

I actually think that 10 episodes just scratch the surfice. I can understand a box of 10 episodes for A-team and shows like that. When i see one episode of A-team i always ask myself "Didn´t i see this one last week?" Magnum have so much more depth to offer. But i guess they are hoping more people to get interested of buying the entire collection in the end.

But i guess they are hoping more people to get interested of buying the entire collection in the end.

That was my point that I think it takes ten episodes for someone to understand the Magnum "story"... and that doesn't allow time for some of the other great episodes through the years that aren't related to Michelle or Mac or Lily.

Kind of a weird mix of episodes I think. I was tempted to buy it, but it appears there are no extras or bonuses and I already have all the season DVDs. Don't they know they could get some more money out of the fans if they had added something we haven't already seen or own? Ha-ha!
