Mustache trio

#1 Post by MagnumsMoustache »

It's kind of funny how the 3 main lead characters of the show had mustaches. If they kept Rick's look from 1979 throughout the series, then all the lead characters would've.

Did Magnum, Higgybaby or TC inspire any of the guys here to grow one? I have to admit, Magnum PI kind of figured into me growing one, along with my dad having a mustache back in the 70s until 1989 so thick it could rival Magnum's, and my uncle having a TC style stash, while my maternal grandfather in the 70s (before he passed away in 1975 at age 55) had literally the same exact style mustache Higgins had--which is a very rare mustache style, then and now.

I had one while crossing the Atlantic when I was in the Navy. Once I got in port, had a few drinks, and the sobered up the next morning, I realized it was not my look!

At the time my little follicles started sprouting, my favorite people were Tony Stark (the comic book alter ego of Iron Man), Burt Reynolds and this TV show starring some guy in Hawaiian shirts driving a red sports car.

Needless to say I've been rocking the 'stach in some form for most of the last 29 or so years.

I remember running my finger across my upper lip in my freshman year of high school (you guys know what I'm talking about) and my homeroom teacher telling be "be careful kid, you might rub it off".

It's almost a year that I have my moustache.
It is not as thick as TM's but it is a decent one.
Some time ago I met a friend of mine and he said to me: "Hey, you look like Magnum P.I."
I had my Da Nang hat on 8)

I tend to look more WWII fighter ace than Magnum with my mustache... So I haven't seriously grown one yet. Not so in vogue right now... But next Movember I'll be sporting one for sure.

I'm blonde, so my moustache only works in tandem with my beard. Besides that, it doesn't have the power of Selleck or Sam Elliott's 'stache. :(

However, being 39 and having a rapidly graying head of hair and beard doesn't do me any favors. I'll go with the "Hemingway" look once the beard and hair go completely white.

My dad had a moustache till 1996, then he shaved it off due to his wife's requests. I've had a stache for 15 years now. I think Tom Selleck was/is the biggest influence, because he rocks stache well!!!! 8)

Started growing one in High School when I drove a red MGB. Had it until my ex wife said if I ever shave she would leave me. Had a clean lip for several years. Then three years ago grew it back.

I've grown one a few times, but really only as an ironic salute to the '70s/'80s. I would keep it for longer, but instead of rocking it macho style (a la Selleck, Reynolds, Jeremy) I end up looking a little light in the loafers...if you know what I mean.

LOL!!! I definitely know what you are talking about. I started trying to grow one my senior year when I was done with sports (my High School athletic director didn't allow facial hair). I remember borrowing my Mother's mascara to darken it so you could even see it! I have had one pretty much non stop since my frehman year in College. I have said before, and will say again, despite any proclamations of "being so seventies", "being so eighties", "being so early nineties", or my favorite.."being so 70's porno star", I am keeping mine until Geraldo Rivera shaves his!!!!

Thinking back now . . . freshman year may have been too early, we Irish aren't all that hairy. It may have been sophomore or junior year.

Now I have to check . . .

. . . it was quite sad though. I had a very "El DeBarge" look going on, and not purposefully!
