So, just how rare is the LJN action figure?

For all non-episode specific topics about the show, including MPI-related "tie-ins"

I am asleep at the wheel! How did I ever miss them. Hey, how about a Carol, Icepick, Luther, etc...

Am I evil or what? How about a Star Wars Yoda as Icepick?

Actually, the only other characters I've been able to come up with are:

Elmo Ziller (looks strangely like Higgins, doesn't he????):

and Willie from Basket Case:

I got a bunch of Barbies from eBay and was going to do a Diane/Deirdre and maybe the Snow White Oriental villain, but I never got around to making any outfits for them. If I can find a pinstripe suit I made for one doll, I may be able to come up with a Carol. The females' outfits on the show weren't that memorable or identifiable. Of course, I need to find a brunette doll whose hair looks like she stuck her finger in a light socket and I can make a Michelle!

Rick's too tall.

And, is it me, or is Magnum, GI, starting to look like Ben Stiller? ;-)

Mike if you clip the hear, color the flesh, and add a little hair you have the spitting image of Icepick.

That MGI intro vid is the funniest thing I've seen in weeks. Brilliant!

Indeed, golf did a fantastic job on it.

I agree. You know golfmobile, you could, if you want, easily make Rick smaller by removing a chunk of thigh from both legs. After removing the sections, you could simply epoxy the legs back together. Kind of gruesome, but effective. And since he wears pants you wouldn't notice the "surgery" anyway. ;)

removing a chunk of thigh from both legs
Lemme work on that. I might be able to take a small chunk out of his calves too. The trick would be getting the sawed-off portions exactly the same size so he doesn't end up with one leg shorter than the other. I haven't found a very exact or easily usable tool to cut the plastic on these action figures. (However, cutting thighs and calves with a table saw might work -- would make a clean, straight cut and the width of the blade x 2 [one cut at thigh, one at calf] might take a quarter inch off his height, but that's probably not enough. Hmmmm, better locate the safety glasses -- I can just SEE his ankle and foot richocheting around the workshop after a cut at the calf . . . . I'll video that for ya, folks!)

I've been thinking about re-doing the video since I've gotten a better video camera. Might have an opportunity to get some better shots of MGI when we're in Hawaii next month (better snorkel shot, e.g., since that was in a swimming pool, and I might just do it in the ocean). But that means taking female doll along -- and all the extra clothes and equipment . . . . . I have a hard enough time convincing Larry to let me stick MGI in the luggage. If I have to pack clothes for him too, I'm probably going to be on the receiving end of the Mega-Evil Eye.

I've spend a lot of time working with plastic on a table saw - acrylic actually. I should warn you that, depending on the hardness of the plastic, you run the risk of the entire leg shattering once the teeth of the saw blade hit it. If you go for it, find a sharp blade with very small teeth.

Golf,
I too have cut a LOT of plastic with power tools. See my photobucket for reference. http://s198.photobucket.com/albums/aa221/TX23_MCB/
If you're actually going to do the "height reduction surgery" I would suggest using a dremel, or similar rotary tool with a cut-off wheel.
It's in my opinion too delecate a job to do it with a table saw. Another thing would be a simple coping saw. If you or Larry have hand tools, I'm sure you have a coping saw.
Image Your local hobby shop or craft store should have X-acto saws

which might give you better control, and a finer tooth blade.
Whatever your method, you want to make sure you supply Rick G.I. with lots of vodka first.

Well, all that may be academic, until I look at his legs again. Some of these GI Joes have rubber legs with some kind of metal inside them, so they don't really have a "jointed" knee that shows -- something inside bends and the rubber over the knee stretches so the knee can bend somewhat (not nearly as far as MGI's plastic jointed knees and legs). I know T.C. GI's legs are like that. I don't remember for Rick's, but I'm thinking his are okay, because I had him with his knees bent for the "Rambo Rick" part of the video, and the knees wouldn't have bent and straightened out as easily as they did in the video if he had the "rubber/metal" knees.

The problem with the hand saw is getting a clean, level cut. But I can imagine how a wide-toothed table saw blade could shatter the entire leg portion. Well, that WOULD make him shorter . . . .

This may require more investigation on my part before I try anything.

Thanks for all the advice. Probably saved Larry and me from a few stitches, a trip to the emergency room, and the embarrassment of trying to explain embedded chips of a GI Joe's leg in our hands, arms, and face!!!

Will report more this evening (if I'm alive to tell the story . . . . ).
