THIS IS NOT MAGNUM PI!!!

#1 Post by sickboy »

This magnum costume sucks. I actually saw this at the store and it made me wonder why they even wasted their time. http://www.clicket.com/images_med/16944.jpg
There are some decent ones on ebay that include a real Hawaiian shirt, fitted has, wig and mustache. the seller did a retty good job with photoshop. It is worth cheching out.

I've seen that on a few sites as well, and you are correct: It sucks! I think most people here would splurge and get the Tigers hat and an iconic Jungle Bird shirt. Both of those you could use again whereas this costume is a one time deal. You can always take an old pair of shorts, roll them under and duct tape them from the inside for the short shorts effect.

Also welcome aboard and enjoy the site.

I agree. For just a little money anyone here could put together a MUCH better MPI costume using correct clothing. I think TS was on Conan once, and Conan was wearing the "costume" and TS couldn't stop laughing about it.

If I remember correctly, TS even said he gets nothing or next to nothing for the costumes.........

I haven't seen the costume, but what the deuce? I've been wearing hawaiian shirts, a moustache and a Tigers hat for so many years that my hat is faded and falling apart. You could never get me to wear short shorts in a million years though! Fashion has changed a bit since the 80's. In retrospect, some of the 'hip' trends of the 80's are now considered effeminate.
I just don't give a damn!

I sorta like the hat with the MPI logo. I suppose if you could get the costume cheap enough, that could warrant a purchase (if the hat wouldn't disintegrate in the wind, that is).

Something tells me the guy who started this thread was simply trying to get some traffic to his ebay advert... but it has actually generated some interesting thoughts.

Funny how that can happen.

Yes Styles, likely a vendor started it. Look what else came up by following the links:

Egads! These look more like they belong on my triple nipple post. I really wonder about all these items on ebay with purported authenticity.

Geez. Those are some hideous earrings. I can't help imagining the look on my wife's face on Christmas day... She'd certainly say my Magnum obsession has gone too far this time.

OK.....

I'm issuing an open challenge to the forumites out there.

WHICH episode were those god-awful earrings worn in?!!!

(I have no idea myself... but I'd love to see where they were worn... if ever)

I'm assuming they would have to have been worn in some episode. If not, I've got some grade A "Magnum PI" lawn shears that I can sell!

Any takers?

I've emailed this seller before asking for screen shots or at least the episode name that his / her item could be seen in. Always the same reply. No screen shots, episode unknown. But they always say there's a COA with the item. COAs are easily made on any computer. My guess is most of this stuff is not genuine MPI props, and if they were in fact purchased for the show, they were never used.
The only MPI "props" I'd buy from ebay is stuff from hawaiiprops, Rick Romer, or reproductions from music4rhinos (Steven, only looking).

I stand corrected.

Narration:
Toward the end of the third season Zeus's ego became unbearable. Often he would not come out of his trailer until all non-essential crew members were off the set. Several times he claimed Selleck and the other cast members walked on his lines, and stormed off the set refusing to return. Entire days of shooting would be lost. Fellow cast member Apollo was close to leaving the show.
Apollo: "I loved working with Tom, John and the guys. I loved Hawaii. But Zeus thought he was the star of the show. Coming to work every day and wondering what Zeus would pull was grating on my nerves. You could see the rest of the cast and crew were getting tired of it too. I almost quit after the third season. My contract was up, and I had a really solid offer from Disney. Fortunately Tom [Selleck] took me aside and had a talk with me, talked me out of quitting. He was really good that way."

From the E- True Hollywood Story.

I love the seller's marketing pitch. From the listing:

'Earrings are large about 3" in diameter, and would look great with todays fashion.'

Yeah right! In a pig's eye or is that ear.
