MGI has written another stellar entry in his blog! It's amazing how well the little guy writes!
The day with Michael must have been so exciting for everyone, even Larry. Thanks for keeping us updated and entertained. I look forward to every new entry.
BTW, golf, I have had requests for a repeat of your margaritas, as the Sunday evening cocktail.
Higgins: You've washed the car?! How extraordinary. Why would you do such a thing?
Thanks for the great write-up. MGI must be adorable to watch when typing. I can picture his itty bitty body swaying back and forth, his stiff hands forcefully poking at the keys.
Golf told him about how they might go to some filming locations if they could find them and that rubber chicken from the MM site had created the filming locations “map” on Google Earth. She went out to the car and got her laptop and showed RC’s locations guide to him.
I'm curious to hear his reaction to that. Good I hope?
Michael said that Ms. Anderson was a real animal lover and had many different animals at the estate frequently, pigs, goats, dogs, etc. He said that, because of this, the crew would have to clean up the estate grounds before they could film.
Interesting. I wonder if they used one of her goats in Dead Man's Channel (2.2). Maybe seeing a goat on the property is how they got the idea. If you just happen to have a goat nearby who isn't doing anything better, why not put him to work?
Don't worry, Olivier! Everyone will know almost as soon as I do! (I do get to find out first because I'll need to transcribe the tapes -- haven't gotten any tapes yet, but hopefully they'll start coming in the mail in a week or so.)
RC,
We really didn't have a lot of time to get into your GE locations map (I wanted to get into detail with him on it, but he was trying to finish up in the conference room we were in so there may have been some kind of time constraint I wasn't aware of). I got the impression that he was really impressed with the work and detail that went into it, but I'm not sure he understood it, exactly, because I'm not sure if he was familiar with GE to start with (you know, if you've never looked at it before, it takes a while to get the hang of it and get used to looking at things from that perspective). And to understand what a fantastic job you did, it helps to look at several placemarks and descriptions you have created for the different places to see how you have set it up. But he was totally amazed and awed that someone (YOU!) could find that many locations just using the "top down" view.
I love the fact that "Michael" showed you the Sinatra/Burnett "behind the scenes" tape at K-Mart! I wonder if any customers or employees caught a glimpse of it. I know it would have caught my attention.
Did the non-Maxifli balls make a difference in Larry's game?
Incredible write-ups, Golf, I hang on every word and description. "Michael" is indeed an amazing man, so generous with his time and his collection of "stuff" has me chomping at the bits to see and read more, I especially would love to see those VHS and Beta home movie tapes.........
Check the site again. I did a quick update based on some questions I received and a reminder from Michael about one action depicted on the video. I think you'll all find that action very interesting.
Love the blog! Love all the details you add! Here are a few thoughts I had...
It doesn't get any better than having lunch with Michael who worked on MPI, watching a vintage MPI tape with never been seen footage of Frank Sinatra and Carol Burnett while in a Kmart in Oahu while shopping for golfballs! Only you golf...only you!
I loved the alarm clock story. Found it funny they saved TS's cough drop wrappers. Wondered what other things are in all those boxes Michael hasn't had the chance to go through yet. And I would love to see some of those tapes some day. I worry that warehouse may not be the best place for those tapes.
I forgot to add...Tom Selleck kissed Frank Sinatra on the top of the head? Awwww. What a sweet way to show his admiration!
