Magnum-Mania.com mention on national radio show

#1 Post by N1095A »

This morning on his Sirius Satellite radio show, Jay Thomas mentioned TS being the first choice for Indiana Jones, and how he couldn't take the role because of MPI. He stated that TS had to be resentful. I called in. I mentioned that TS being the stand-up guy he is honored his contract and stayed with MPI even though he could have done both because of the writers' strike. I also mentioned that while he was in Hawaii waiting for MPI to begin production he worked as a handyman. Jay argued that no way TS worked as a handyman. His producer looked it up and confirmed the fact. This seemed to irritate Jay because he was wrong. I then plugged this website and James. I called this site "The world's authority on all things Magnum, P.I.". Jay asked if I was an MPI geek. I said I was. He made fun of me a little, especially when I mentioned I owned all eight seasons on DVD. but his co host and producer agreed that MPI was great. I guess Jay isn't a fan. They ended the show with the MPI theme. I was on for about five minutes, and I did manage to mention James's name and this site on a national radio show.

James, The only reason I called in was to plug the site. I try to do that as much as I can. I even have my MPI decal on the back of my truck. This time though, I mentioned your name. I'm only sorry Jay was being an ass. I could have done a better job otherwise. That's his nature though.
I wish I'd have thought of it, I'd have asked him when "Love And War" was coming out on DVD, and what is the address of the website dedicated to that show? That would have put him in his place.

Jay Thomas, whoever he is... is a dope.

Nice to hear you proved him wrong!

Cool, I never imagined this little corner of the internet getting national publicity of any sort.

Maybe some listeners will drop in and remember what a great show Magnum P.I. was. Then perhaps pick up a season on dvd, and revisit the show all over again. :)

Jay Thomas was originally a disc jockey here in the Los Angeles area circa 1980's. (If my memory serves me correctly.) If you ever watched the show Cheers on a regular basis, he played the husband/boyfriend of Carla the waitress for a couple of seasons. I believe his character made his living as the mascot or hockey player for the Pittsburgh Penguins, as he was sometimes wearing a penguin costume. He had a pretty good acting career going, made a few movies then went back to radio. I still see him in an occasional TV show or movie now-a-days. Hope this clears things up a little bit.

Oh yes, and him being an ass, that was his schtick back in the '80's also. He played the Easter Bunny in The Santa Clause II & III.

Actually, it was a rhetorical question.

Sounds like he should have played a clown instead of the easter bunny.

I was wondering if that was the Jay Thomas you were talking about. He's got a pretty distinctive voice if I remember.

At any rate, good on ya for the plug!
Icepick - Does it ever occur to you that you are always having to bail your friend Magnum out of trouble?
