I work for Universal Japan and in the April issue of "Insight" (our company magazine-not for general sale) there is an interview with Steven Goldberg head of new projects in LA. In the interview he talks about many things but one small section deals with the upcoming Magnum movie. I can confirm that Universal is going with a female version of the character and that the movie will follow the recent "parody" trend
For fear of losing my job I can't say yet who will play the roles or direct but suffice it to say it's nobody that has been mentioned in the press that I saw.
I know everyone here will feel as sick as I did when I read that.
Just to add I think the success of the Battlestar Galactica series where many of the traditional male roles were switched to female in the remake is a big reason for this change of direction.
The "female version of the character"? What is that supposed to mean? Surely you don't mean the character of Thomas Magnum is going to be replaced by a different character, a female character?? If so, why the heck is it even called "Magnum P.I."?

Lily Catherine, maybe?
I don't even know how that would work, considering most of the general public who only know OF the show would have no idea who Lily Catherine even IS.
You have to have a male Magnum (no offense ladies!), otherwise the entire concept doesn't make any sense.
Lets have a woman in LA who drives a Porche and call it "Magnum PI"

Don't feel bad. I got caught myself badly on the sumo forum yesterday and was all worked up into an indignant rage over "plans to check passports and fingerprints of foreign fans attending sumo tournaments in Tokyo" haha.
