Re-airing on ION

#1 Post by Philip Jennings »

The ION over-the-air channel is premiering the reboot tonight at 7pm EDT. The first 7 episodes of season one will be shown starting at that time, 7pm-2am.

I watched them.
In episode 7 Higgins gifts him the classic Magnum PI Hawaiian shirt to wear, for the first time.

I hadn't seen Magnum's first episode since its premiere on Sept. 24, 2018 - six years ago to the day of this reply.
I must admit to not giving it a fair chance then, Jay replacing Selleck was epic miscasting in my mind.
Plus Higgins now a woman, the obviously computer generated estate, the cartoonish mass firefights, yuck.

But frankly now season 1 doesn't seem nearly as bad as I first thought after watching the first 7 episodes again.
Especially as in my minds eye I now approach the series as not just being being totally divorced from, but in a different universe than our Classic Magnum from 40 years ago.
On that basis it is a nice little scenic adventure diversion.
Jay is likable and generous to the other actors, Perdita is a excellent actress plus - unlike our much regarded John Hillerman - she is a incredible physical specimen who
you don't have to substitute stunt women for in the more rigorous scenes.
I'm curious to see if anyone else viewing these episodes again might have changed their opinion about the series.

Don't forget the last two seasons, after Lenkov had been exiled, were a major upgrade what with much better writing and Jay getting creative input as well as directing.

These are sped up to around 102.6%, which provides for an extra 90 seconds per 60 minutes, much like GET TV does with its re-airing of the original series. I have no frame of reference for what, if anything, has been edited out, but do know that the commercial breaks average about 5 minutes. More likely is that some content has been edited out to varying degrees on a per-episode basis.

Not judging, just pointing out mere facts. :higgins:
