I've just returned from a 3 week trip to France and had to do a double take when I first saw a 308 on display in Monaco. We were driving by at the time and thought why is it so special that they would have it on display, well on closer inspection an artist named Bertrand Lavier coated the whole car in thick acrylic paint, creating an art display for all to see. Only in Monaco would you see a Ferrari painted over like that! I'm curious to know what everyone's opinion is on the piece and is it worth more or less now as an art piece than when it was drivable. I guess like any art piece it's open to interpretation and debate, but I'm sure someone in Monaco would have no problem paying more for it. Anyways, it was an interesting find that I thought some of the gang would like to see. It was hard to get a decent pic of it with the glass reflection so I found a few images and video that are pretty good so you can pic up on some of the details.

308 Ferrari - Art

Re: 308 Ferrari - Art
NO....NO.....NO......NO...NO! (too much?
)
I can ALMOST understand the "art" aspect of it...but c'mon..WASTING a perfectly fine 308? Nope..nope..nope.
If the artist can afford to ruin an actual car...then he doesn't NEED to sell it as "art". JMHO
There are better ways to preserve one for "posterity"..as it were.
If he wants to donate it to me, I'll strip all that stuff off, do a nice repaint and take him for a ride when it's done...so he can appreciate it for what it was intended.
I mean geeez...he coulda done a nice painting of one...right? Full size, utilizing "realism"...on a boulder!
I may be alone in this opinion..but I'd rather be alone and right than with the crowd and wrong!

When I was walking toward it I was saying to myself......"Oh that's nice, a 308 on display".....then I reach it and can see the extra paint on it and my brain went into a spin, struggling to process it....."Oh it's an art piece, that looks like a 308 -well done".....and then it hits me........"OH MY GOD - this is a real 308, what the...."

I've seen other high performances cars painted or wrapped before, but never this way. This artist takes it even further with another piece.....he destroyed a 308 Dino GT4 and put it on display, so to put a positive spin on it.....at least the 308 GTS kept its shape. Supposedly the guy loves Ferraris and has owned a few that he actually drove around. I would struggle to destroy what I think is already a masterpiece with acrylic paint.....kind of like painting over the work of someone else and calling it your own. Just imagine if he tried to paint over the Mona Lisa!!!

Buckle up 308GUY, I'm guessing you won't like this ride......have a look at some more Ferrari art out there...........the 308 Dino piece is near the end of this link.

Re: 308 Ferrari - Art
I'm all for promoting the "arts"....I've worked as an artist in the past...did portraits....but destroying a perfectly good ride for the sake of "art" nope...not in my portfolio...and I don't think it should be in anybody's.
Remember Andy Warhol...and his Campbell's Soup Can? At least he didn't destroy a good can of soup, no matter how you felt about the piece as "art".
As I said...just my own personal opinion...and you know what they say about opinions and a**holes...."everybody's got one...and they all stink!"
In the "big picture"....what does it matter if all the cars on the planet disappear? Maybe the ones that GOT "preserved for posterity" as "art"...will BE the only examples future generations can actually see to let them know how things came to the point they are looking from. Ok...yea...that's quite a "stretch"...but it does stay in line with my own take on things in general..."Everybody should be able to do whatever they want..as long as it doesn't prevent somebody else from doing what they want."
The dinosaurs disappeared...but...we have their bones...natures preservational "art"? Yuk,yuk, yuk!
But...but..but by destroying those cars as vehicles...they prevented me or somebody else from procuring them to use for their intended purpose and derive the enjoyment it would provide!
Thanks for posting KENJI...it IS "interesting".

Glad you found it interesting 308GUY!
You would've been in heaven there with number of exotic cars either parked or driving down the streets AND untouched by Bertrand the Barbarian!

Re: 308 Ferrari - Art
I have never considered this sort of thing to be "art." Similar examples would be 4'33" and paint thrown on canvas.
