Re: Lady X
Hey Kenji. I was wrong. You can only win Miss Hawaii one time so it was when she won they determined she was too old. She was born in 1960 . Thanks for your lava flow concerns. I live on another island.the island of Oahu so no lava flowing here but still feel bad for the town of Pahoa on the big island of Hawaii
Re: Lady X
That's what I thought, but it still doesn't make sense that she competed in the 1985 Miss USA Pageant if her Miss Hawaii title was taken from her.......I'm guessing the lawyers got involved and found a way to reinstate her. Can you add to this?MPIinstitute wrote:Hey Kenji. I was wrong. You can only win Miss Hawaii one time so it was when she won they determined she was too old. She was born in 1960 . I had a feeling you were on Oahu....I should've worded it a bit differently.
I saw one picture of the lava either going into a cemetery or just missing it which I'm hoping is the latter, otherwise that would be really sad.
Re: Lady X
Interesting. So if you are in a movie, and your speaking parts are cut, you still get a credit?Pahonu wrote:She would only have been credited if she had a line or more of dialogue. Otherwise she would have been considered "atmosphere" also known as an extra, with no screen credit. It makes sense according to SAG rules.

I've actually spotted a couple of uncredited (at the time) celebrity cameos in old movies. Lloyd Bridges in a Three Stooges short and Ava Gardner in a Charlie Chan movie. I think both have those have been added to imdb over the years.

Re: Lady X
Yeah looks like they stripped her of the title after the USA pageant which doesnt make sense. So it seems like she didnt complete her full reign.
Re: Lady X
One more addition to add to Sam's link.......

Re: Lady X
That's still not making sense because of the dates...one article states in February she is being stripped of her title after only one week of winning it, due to her age and the 18yr old runner-up will take her place. Fast forward to May 13, 1985 and she is still Miss Hawaii competing in the Miss USA Pageant. I think there is a missing piece there, maybe there was a quiet resolution behind closed doors to avoid a $5million lawsuit and the tarnishing of the pageant.MPIinstitute wrote:Yeah looks like they stripped her of the title after the USA pageant which doesnt make sense. Re: Lady X
Ok I did some research and found out the girl who took Tina Machado's place in 1985, also competed in and won the Miss Hawaii pageant in 1986. So this girl, Ms. Costa, was Miss Hawaii for two years. Tina Machado took 8th place in the Miss USA pageant in 1985.

Thanks MPInstitute for doing some digging.MPIinstitute wrote:Ok I did some research and found out the girl who took Tina Machado's place in 1985, also competed in and won the Miss Hawaii pageant in 1986. Oh boy, this gets more puzzling by the minute.
I thought one couldn't be Miss Hawaii more than once.....unless there is some fine print somewhere in the legal paperwork that states otherwise. Why would they let Tina compete in the Miss USA pageant months after they stated she was overage in the Miss Hawaii Pageant? In my mind that would make her in eligible to go any further (i.e. Miss USA or even Miss Universe)....it makes no sense! There has to be one more piece of the puzzle out there.
It will surface!

Re: Lady X
Excellent work!!
According to this, she was in another show in the early 80s, Hawaiian Heat. Basically a Magnum PI meets Running Scared show.

Re: Lady X
Now that this one is solved, what other "Magnum Mysteries" are out there?

Re: Lady X
Hi James,
We don't have fingerprints or a facial recognition scan done yet (working on it)
, but we have some excellent visual evidence in Sam's findings and the Miss USA YouTube footage, not to mention MPInstitute's key info confirming that Lady X is Tina Machado. She was also Miss Hawaii 1985 and a model during MPI's run so I could see them offering her a few cameos. I'm convinced like many others....looks like a slam dunk. I think it is really safe to add her name a few times to the Episode Guide Section, maybe put an asterisk beside her name until Conch get confirmation back from her F.B. page.
