Not much to say about this one.

Poor episode. Boring and strange ending left me scratching my head.

I liked the Hawaiian folklore and theme though. And change of scenery.

The execution was poor and seemed like it just ended with no real answers.

Liked this one.

Gil Gerard played a good alcoholic in recovery.

Turning his life around and making amends and then getting his gun out of the glovebox was a good moment.

Was it all for show?

No, he just wanted to make everything right.

It was a powerful scene when they were forcing the bottle down his throat. "This is better than a bullet".



For anyone in recovery, or have friend or family in recovery, you know this to be true.

Jumping in the truck and tackling the bad guys himself was good.

I saw Emilio Delgado in a Police Story episode many years ago. He was a tough guy in a bar scene and I remember being so distracted that it was Luis from Sesame Street!

Right on, bruddah!

Could never wrap my head around this one or why so many actually like this episode. I know Mr. Mike views this one very favorably. I think many consider it to be the "most Hawaiian" episode but that doesn't actually make it a good episode. It's strange, bizarre, confusing, but most of all... boring. In the end I guess George DiCenzo's character was the "bad guy"? But it's never stated or explained. It just ends without answers. I wonder if this was some kind of a precursor to LOST. Confusing, bizarre, mystical stuff going on, where you're supposed to draw your own conclusions. Sorry, deal me out. I much preferred the season 1 "Hawaiian" episode "The Big Kahuna" where you had some strange occurrences but in the end it was all explained and there was an actual crime being committed. This one just didn't work for me. Bottom of the barrel season 10 entry.

I agree that this one is pretty good. Certainly a vast improvement over the previous one. At least we're in Five-O territory here. The alcoholic in recovery was a good story and actually pretty original - it took 10 seasons to finally tackle the issue of alcoholism. Surprised they didn't come up with a story about this earlier. Unless I'm missing one.

Never having been an avid watcher of SESAME STREET I guess I'm not familiar with Emilio Delgado. Though I did regularly watch MISTER ROGERS' NEIGHBORHOOD and SHINING TIME STATION (the one with Thomas the Tank Engine and Ringo Starr/George Carlin as Mr. Conductor).

If I had to pick one really awful episode, it's 'Up The Rebels'. Stephen Boyd's accent, although he was born in Belfast [actually Glengormley, County Antrim], is atrocious. I'm Irish, you see. So, for me, I'm afraid the whole episode was a bit of a dud.

Recently the Magnum reboot was being shown on Amazon Prime in Canada. I used this to update the entry for Elissa Dulce, who appeared in several episodes of the original show.

Decent episode.

The astronaut angle was so random.

They do a successful job in getting our sympathies for Richard. Down and out, nothing going right in his life, getting played by his babe girlfriend.

McGarrett talking him down from blowing away Devlin was good.

The Ramos storyline was sad. Bad evil corrupt land developer kills poor family man rancher.

Yep, another pretty good episode. I agree that the astronaut thing feels kinda weird. It would be like getting Neil Armstrong or Buzz Aldrin or John Glenn to do commercials for a development company, which is what Devlin was doing with Royce here. I'm not sure if astronaut Royce is supposed to be as famous as those "real" guys (I think it's hinted at that he was) but you would expect him to do commercials or whatever for something space related. Not real estate for a crooked developer, even if he is down on his luck. I mean Royce still has his "name", right? But then we wouldn't have this story. I agree that the story with the rancher Ramos (Kwan Hi Lim) was very good (probably the best thing about the episode) so his death has quite an impact on us, and on Royce, causing him to finally "wake up" and turn against Devlin.

Christina Hart, who plays Royce's girlfriend, is probably best remembered from 2 episodes of THREE'S COMPANY. The one I remember is from season 1 - "Roper's Niece", where she is Roper's "innocent" niece who tries to seduce Jack the moment she's alone with him. Great episode!

T.Q., I must be slow or something but it never occurred to me that the young boy that you have as your avatar is someone from MPI, "Tran Quoc" to be more precise. It just dawned on me! Funny that I never gave that young boy much thought or questioned who that might be. Even more surprising is that once I looked him up the actor (Roland Harrah III) actually played Chuck Norris' Amerasian son in BRADDOCK: MISSING IN ACTION III (1988), one of my favorite movies when I was growing up! I was a huge Chuck Norris fan! Also he was "Half-Pint" on AIRWOLF, again an Amerasian son of Sinjin, String's MIA brother. Sadly the young actor took his own life at just 21 years old. Any particular reason why you chose this character? Are you a big fan of that episode?

And yes, I need to pick up where I left off with MPI, season 4. Last episode I watched (last year) was the "Red Faced Thespian" one which I didn't care for too much. Just got side-tracked with lots going on. I also have box sets of ROCKFORD and COLUMBO that I just don't have the time to go through. But gotta finish MPI first.

I have no details about this episode but there are regional differences in Irish accents, as there are with most widespread languages like English. I believe there are about twenty recognized accents in Great Britain and even more in the US. Here’s a hilarious rundown of the Irish variety.
