Yep, I do like McG's Aloha shirt here.T.Q. wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 2:28 pm You Don't See Many Pirates These Days
Not bad. Okay episode. Nothing spectacular.
"No need to know" reminded me of something.![]()
I liked Stavrik. Cool as a cucumber.
I see Charlie has taken over for Che.
I always like references to Maui. There was even a little stock clip of old Front Street in Lahaina. Way it looked when I was a kid going there.
Best thing about the episode? McGarrett's Aloha shirt.![]()

Pretty standard story but enjoyable enough.

Really liked this episode so, of course, it's trashed on IMDb.![]()

Framing Joe Moala for apparently no reason. Moe Keale did a good job.
I like the interplay between McGarrett and Terri O'Brien. Was fun to me.
Confucius? No McGarrett.
Funny Josie Over was literally back-to-back episodes.

Yeah this one is pretty good. I liked it more than the previous 2 and it's about on par with the first one ("Up the Rebels"). It's funny because you liked the whole "ohana" bit and didn't care for the tunneling caper, while I didn't care much for "ohana" (reminds me of the new Five-0 with all its "ohana" nonsense) and really liked the tunneling caper. Love the music by Morton Stevens that plays during the tunneling scenes. Really catchy! It's in my head as I type this and I haven't seen this episode in years.T.Q. wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:14 pm The Friends of Joey Kalima
Liked it a lot.
There's a pattern developing here again.
Season 10 episodes 1 & 2 didn't like much. 3 & 4 I really did. Lighter episodes?
Good local Hawaiian angle with Kalima and his adopted O'hana and his role in the community.
Good back-n-forth throughout with McGarrett and the IA officer.
The tunneling thing is a bit overdone but oh well.
Enjoyed the episode.
Weird they changed Charlie so fast especially consider how much Josie Over was used.
MPI: Elaine Giftos, Seth Sakai, Kimo Kahoano, Jimmy Borges, Ernest Chan, Brian Fong, Kwan Hi Lim, Elizabeth Smith (love her)
The tunnel was good for bringing all the elements together.IvanTheTerrible wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 1:04 am

You know, you may actually really like these last 3 seasons. By this point the series' glory days were behind and season 10 started the downward spiral. But as a MPI fan if you like the lighter stories then this stuff might just be for you. Also the time frame of these episodes (late 70s) is getting pretty close to the start of MPI's run. We're a whole decade later here than when the show began (1968).
Funny, the instant I read this I knew exactly what you meant. They did overkill it.new Five-0 with all its "ohana" nonsense

I never watched the new H5-O beyond the first couple of episodes. I know ohana refers to extended family and even those not blood-related but have become close to the family. Multigenerational families living together under the same roof are also very common and part of Hawaiian culture, and ohana. A friend of mine from Lahaina also described it to me in terms of small towns not on Oahu. Ohana is the closeness of small town communities to him. He attended UCLA and we met through friends. He couldn’t wait to get back to the small town lifestyle and out of the LA metropolis.T.Q. wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 1:17 amThe tunnel was good for bringing all the elements together.IvanTheTerrible wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 1:04 am

The lava dust angle was cool.

Oh, everything about the new show was about "ohana". I started getting nauseous just hearing that word.
Was just overused.
Actually Selleck begged Jack Lord to appear on Five-O (because he obviously knew it was the best show ever) but Jack turned him down. So then Selleck resigned to appearing on that other show with Jimmy whats-his-name. But Tommy always regretted not appearing on the most revered show of all time, even referring to McGarrett and Five-O on his own show.Pahonu wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 11:54 pm Seems like it was fairly mediocre writing in general.
While I don’t agree with Ivan that the the original H-5O was the best show ever, because he’s clearly wrong as it was actually The Rockford Files, which Selleck knew well enough to appear on, twice, while the opposite isn’t true, I do enjoy many episodes of the series, and have also really enjoyed following both of your disagreements. How’s that for a run-on sentence!![]()
