Really? I honestly can't see it being anyone other than him. Looks just like his uncredited mug.

Pretty good. Not a great episode for me for some reason.

Good story though. Extortion of working girls.

Reminded me: "They're whores Magnum".

Ned Beatty did a good creepy job.

I should have liked it more. Can't put my finger on it.

When I can't really decide I'll put a number on it: 7/10

Man on Fire

HIGGY BABY! :higgins:

Wifey and I were discussing his accent. She thought he still sounded like Higgins. I didn't think much.

He is (was) such a good actor.

The return of Grant Ormsbee. How he got under McGarrett's skin is great. Great fun that annoying character.

Anyways, was an okay episode. Nothing to write home about.

Hijacking nuclear materials and making weapons was a good concept.

I think they would have linked the pregnant girl with radiation poisoning to the lab a bit quicker.

Also, do you know what Ormsbee was yelling at the end? I could not make it out even rewinding. McGarrett's grin was great.

MPI: John Hillerman, Pat Hingle, Alan Fudge, Elizabeth Smith, Wayne Oxford, Camille Yamamoto,

I get what you're saying about this one. It's a good episode with a very good story and it's got Ned Beatty as the lumbering bear of a killer who's both sadistic and creepy and yet you don't walk away from this one thinking it's really great. It kinda falls into the middle of the pack for the season for me. Maybe because Beatty doesn't really play a psycho whose victims seem to be random and Five-O has to figure out a pattern. Those are always the best. Here Five-O knows what the scoop is - hookers are targeted and the reason is because they refuse to pay up. It's just a matter of catching the culprit and putting the heat on the man who hired him.

I'm sure this would be Milton Collins' favorite episode.

By the way, Ned Beatty passed away earlier this year.

Yep, this one was an average episode and out of the 3 Pat Hingle Ormsbee episodes this one is my least favorite. Funny how Doc Bergman was in awe of Ormsbee, like he was some sports or film celebrity. Seeing John Hillerman was of course a treat. A bigger treat will be seeing him again in season 10 because his character there actually resides at Robin's Nest. :D He also gets to be very condescending to his secretary in that one. A real snob/jerk! Not at all likable, like Higgy.

As for Ormsbee yelling at the end are you talking about that underground facility, where they're rolling those barrels/canisters? If I recall I think he yells something about not allowing them to "cluster". It's actually one of the most unintentionally hilarious scenes in the whole series!   McGarrett and company running around and trying to catch/keep separate those rolling barrels! Like something out of the Three Stooges! Really silly scene and I'm 99.9% sure is not based on any reality.

Very last scene. Last ten seconds. Ormsbee is yelling something while being taken away in handcuffs.

McGarrett has a grin on his face and says "Good".

Couldn't make it out.

Too bad about Beatty.

Had to whip out my copy of the DVD and turn on the subtitles because I can't make out what he says either.

"You wait, McGarrett, until Admiral Gaines hears about this". Then the rest of it the captions say "Ormsbee shouting indistinctly". Then McG says "Good!"

Tour De Force, Killer Aboard

Pretty decent episode.

Dead people everywhere and an assassin climbing buildings and getting blown away. What's not to like?

Officer Welles resurfaces. Makes some foolish decisions but I like her.

Speaking of recurring cast. I just realized Frank is gone (Douglas Mossman). First Kono, then Ben, now Frank. Keep liking these guys and they disappear.

The brief scenes from Maui were cool. The Sheraton Maui was my old stomping ground as a kid. End of Ka'anapali beach down from family timeshare. Used to hang down there. I lived on Keka’a point (Black Rock).

The Last of the Great Paperhangers yesterday.

Good episode. Enjoyed.

Back to the semi-light-hearted battle of wits.

Kevin McCarthy is great as Hunter R. Hickey.

I really enjoyed the look on McGarrett's face when he went to his office. Like a teacher listening to a student trying to scam them with some story why their homework wasn't done.

Presenting as the Military at the bank was cool.

And double crossing the third wheel was good. Enjoyed how they got busted at the airport.

Yep, this is a really good one. I would say it's my favorite episode so far into the season. Just outside of my top 5 or 6 for the season. Cliff Gorman as the assassin Robert Houston killing that woman that he got close to was pretty cold-blooded. She was a really sweet soul and was really falling for him. Very sad. Great effect of the birds getting startled when he knifes her. Climbing the hotel at the end (you can see it's the Ilikai in various shots) was a suspenseful finale. Assassins, intrigue, danger - love all that stuff!

You just noticed that Frank (Mossman) is gone? He was gone for all of season 8 too! :D

Didn't realize they filmed on Maui. They preferred not to leave O'ahu. Sometimes they would say it's another island but you could see that it's still O'ahu.

Yes, another very enjoyable episode! About on par with the previous one. Kevin McCarthy was indeed very good as "HRH" in this one. The scene between him and McGarrett in the office was a highlight! One of the best guest stars of the season. But I still have a slight preference for him in the very first episode "Full Fathom Five" where his Victor Reese swindler/murderer character was in equal measure charming and deadly. He loved to recite poetry in that one as he and his wife sunk dead widows inside barrels into the ocean depths. Creepy! The very first Five-O villain, outside of Wo Fat in the pilot. But yeah, I liked everything about this episode, including how Elaine Giftos got that boy to get McGarrett's autograph. :) Loved McGarrett musing why the boy wants his autograph - "I'm not a ballplayer or anything like that". Didn't the boy answer "I want to be a cop just like you when I grow up"? Haha, what a crock!! McG later said he should have seen right through that lol. I didn't realize McG was a local cop celebrity that every boy wanted to be like.

Hi TQ,
Since you grew up there, do you have any stories of how the Hawaii 5-0 cast interacted with the locals? I once asked some other Hawaiian resident on these boards that question
in case it was you but I don't recall as I have made over 800 posts.
When the TV series "Ed" filmed in my hometown of Westfield, NJ, the cast hung out in the local bar The Trolly, the park, talked with people and would sit for interviews with
not just the High School paper but with kids from elementary schools. After awhile the novelty wore off and they were pretty much treated like anyone else, instead of
40 onlookers when they filmed in Mindowaskin Park, there might be five who stopped for a moment while walking their dogs. Because the actual work involved in filming
is boring, 2 minutes of action and then an hour of setting up for the next few lines.
Jack Lord strikes me as someone who would be good with the fans.

No, no. Didn't grow up there (I wish).

My parents just had a month time-share since I was 6 years old so grew up going to Ka'anapali every year.

So can't answer your question. Sorry.

Yeah.

To be fair, not like he was in tons of scenes. Why it just dawned on me "I haven't seen Frank in a long long time".

The overhead was Sheraton Black Rock. The scene itself was probably still Oahu. Didn't look familiar.

Heads, You're Dead

Not bad.

Danno going undercover as a tourist/beach bum was funny.

Based on a true story a la Law & Order.

Sadistic gang leader flipping a coin to decide whether Sandi and the other hostages, whom he's going to throw overboard, will be given a life raft (this is also taken from the real-life case; both times the life raft won the toss).

The execution of this in the episode a bit underwhelming. I didn't really FEEL anything about it.

Love the JAWS reference.

All in all pretty decent episode though.

Bad guys, hijacking, theft, murder, mayhem... BOOK 'EM.

Yes, that is Walter Omori above. I wanted to check to see if he appeared in the show more than for his "death shot," and he did:

Is Walter in any more Magnum shows? I wouldn't be surprised if he was...
