I’ve got to figure out what this Roku is finally.

This is a thing of beauty!
we don't have cable setup yet so we're doing a lot through the Firestick. Needing a break yesterday I searched Magnum and it came up through Roku. The picture is AMAZING! MUCH better than the Blu-Rays I bought from Europe.
I highly recommend everyone check it out. I binged half the 1st season.

Thanks, guys! I just added the Roku Channel to my Roku, and I'm watching "Don't Eat The Snow In Hawaii" now. Totally agreed, Conch, the picture quality is superb!
Interesting that the intro was not the original intro to the series.

Better than the Blu Rays? How's that possible?ConchRepublican wrote: ↑Wed Sep 22, 2021 2:06 pm This is a thing of beauty!

Is the Roku channel legit - or more like a pirated streaming service?

The video looks to have been digitally cleaned -- all the scrapes, dirt, bits and bobs -- they're gone.

It's legit, a free download to the firestick.Styles Bitchley wrote: ↑Wed Sep 22, 2021 3:00 pmBetter than the Blu Rays? How's that possible?ConchRepublican wrote: ↑Wed Sep 22, 2021 2:06 pm This is a thing of beauty!

As for how it's better than the Blu-Rays I have no idea, but it looks amazing.

Re: Magnum on Roku Channel
Have been watching MPI on the ROKU channel for going on a year now.
Ever since we bought a $99 Roku tv at Wallyworld about a year ago.
The video quality is as indicated above, excellent. ALL episodes are available and you can watch them anytime you want.
Haven't delved into it enough yet to be able to speak to the issue of "Ki'i's Don't Lie" and Simon & Simon episode "Emeralds Are Not a Girl's Best Friend".
I am guessing that the alternate ending is not available anywhere but on a release of the season 3 DVD's that was available before the entire series was made available as a package deal.
I have a copy of season 3 with the alternate ending and the Simon & Simon episode, but I've never seen it come that way in any of the boxed sets.
Other than that, it's just as Conch says....great quality and all of it all the time...anytime you want!
You can also get an add on box that will allow any of the "smart" tv's out there to receive Roku signal provided you have an internet provider. I've heard about the "firesticks" but never played with or had one, but it sounds like it's close to what the ad on Roku box is. The Roku box can be had for as little as $30 if you don't want all the "bells & whistles".
So much available....really don't need cable or satellite any longer.....a lot of it still has commercials though...most of them air in "clusters" with a little note in the upper left hand corner of the screen telling you how many ads you are going to see. Netflix, Hulu, etc., are the only ones I've seen without ads, but you have to pay a subscription fee. You can get some of the other streamers ad free...but again, you have to "buy" the ad free version.
I'm just happy to see it still being shown somewhere beside Hallmark M&M at 3:00am, and it's still available on Charge last time I looked, but again with many ads, and lots of editing. I haven't noticed all THAT much cut out of the Roku showings.

It's off-topic for this thread, but after I learned about that specific DVD set with the S&S ep, I went and bought it on eBay. I prefer to watch the 2-part one vs the syndicated one.308GUY wrote: ↑Wed Sep 22, 2021 6:50 pmHaven't delved into it enough yet to be able to speak to the issue of "Ki'i's Don't Lie" and Simon & Simon episode "Emeralds Are Not a Girl's Best Friend".

Agreed, this Roku service is a great way to watch our favorite show!

Re: Magnum on Roku Channel
Yeah, I've got it as part of the original Season 3 DVD set (double sided disks). It's interesting that it's not available anywhere else but there.eagle wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 2:11 pmIt's off-topic for this thread, but after I learned about that specific DVD set with the S&S ep, I went and bought it on eBay. Re: Magnum on Roku Channel
Man, I am in such a better mood since yesterday after I started a Magnum binge on the Roku channel!
I'm on s1e8 now ("The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii"), and I'm not skipping any. It's usually muted or on very low volume, but I am absolutely loving this. Gonna just keep it on rotation as long as I'm WFH and not in a meeting where I need to show my video. (My TV is wall-mounted next to me and is fully visible by my laptop camera.)

That would be the funniest thing to get caught doing WFH.eagle wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 4:23 pm Man, I am in such a better mood since yesterday after I started a Magnum binge on the Roku channel!

Re: Magnum on Roku Channel
After watching a number of episodes now and reading recent threads on the new Blu ray releases here, it looks like Roku might be streaming the US Blu ray release or at least the same master. The colors look lifelike and vivid (although maybe even a little saturated imho) and the blacks are dark, but it also looks like some fine detail is lost as observed in comparative screenshots posted in another thread. Any thoughts on this?
