Knocking my rubber chicken or my sloppy habits is within the rules, but you're attacking my character. I would like to think you don't mean that.

Re: Hawaii Five-O: Any Fans?
The best thing about "And They Painted Daisies on His Coffin" was Gavin MacLeod (pre-Mary Tyler Moore Show and pre-Love Boat) playing the slimy and hip-talking dope pusher Big Chicken!!
He makes another appearance later in the season in my personal favorite episode of the season where he *REALLY* steals the show!! By far my favorite villain of the series! Yes, better than Wo Fat! His slimy smugness and his "hip speech" are hard to beat!
So next is... "No Blue Skies"? You're in for some great ones coming up after that.

Good episode.
Hey, I know this guy.

He's in a few Magnums. A little greyer. Once with a red shirt I think (can't put my finger on the episode).
Edit: Figured it out. He played the museum curator in Forever in Time.

Good episode.

Many consider it to be the best of the season. Back when we had discussion forums on IMDB we had an elimination game for best episode of each season. This episode won the title for season 1.
Yep, that's Doug Mossman, a local Hawaiian actor who became a sort of semi-regular during season 7 as Frank Kamana, replacing Five-O member Ben Kokua (Al Harrington) who left mid-season. But he was in many episodes of the show as different characters over the years. Pretty much all these local Hawaiian actors moved on to MAGNUM once FIVE-O ended its run so you'll recognize many of them. Glenn Cannon (Doc Ibold), Tommy Fujiwara, Jimmy Borges, Danny Kamekona, Seth Sakai, Kwan Hi Lim (Lt. Tanaka), Yankee Chang, Moe Keale, etc. As well as FIVE-O regulars Kam Fong (Chin Ho), Zulu (Kono), Al Harrington (Ben), Herman Wedemeyer (Duke).
Anyway, carry on.... "Deathwatch" is another classic!

Ivan,
Is Pray Love Remember worth seeing?
My episode file is only 13 minutes and got cut off when "Leon Platt" was in McGarrett's office.

Re: Hawaii Five-O: Any Fans?
Yes, definitely worth seeing. There's probably only 2 episodes in the 1st season that I might consider not necessary viewing ("No Blues Skies" and "Not That Much Different") but that's just my opinion, as I never really cared for those two. "Pray Love Remember" might be a bit on the slow side (no pun intended, hehe, you'll understand if you've seen the episode) but it's an interesting whodunit and the final reveal at the very end is a real corker!!T.Q. wrote:Ivan,

Leon from A Sense of Debt.
Wanted to see if you got the reference.

Epic fail Ivan!

Ah, Denny Miller. Got it. He was the security guard "Ox" in "Three Minus Two". I haven't really gotten to season 4 yet so I haven't seen that episode. I have the first 3 seasons under my belt and only saw sporadic episodes here and there from the later seasons. Been busy with other stuff but I'll start season 4 hopefully soon. I've only seen "Home from the Sea" and the first "Luther Gillis" ep.

Oh yeah that was a great one! Very tense and Yaphet Kotto gave an Emmy-worthy gut-wrenching performance as the shell-shocked marine lance corporal. I loved how McGarrett was able to play to his hallucinations and pretend to be a part of the rescue mission at the end to end the whole standoff. Well done! You may have noticed that they filmed at the Castle Memorial Hospital (today called Adventist Health Castle) in Kailua, same hospital where they filmed MPI's "Heal Thyself" - http://magnum-mania.com/images/3_12_w_full.jpg and http://magnum-mania.com/images/3_12_n_full.jpg. I took a few pics of this place during my last visit there.T.Q. wrote:King of the Hill

What did you think of "Deathwatch"? One of the very best. I love it more and more each time I watch it! Nehemiah Persoff and James Shigeta really nail their roles as the hoods Harry Cardonus and Joe Matsukino. You can see how disgusted McGarrett is at having to protect this creep who ordered the hit on McGarrett's friend but he has no choice because he wants to nail the bigger fish Matsukino! Fantastic episode! I love those episodes where they have to protect someone long enough so they can testify. They did a few of these.

You guys got me jonesing so bad for this great series I might have to go out and buy it. I just can't understand why it isn't shown more when crud like Barnaby
Jones with Buddy Ebsen sleep walking thru the title role goes on and on. I might have mentioned it somewhere on Magnum Mania before but 2 years ago when
MeTV ran Hawaii 5-0 for a few months(I hadn't seen it in 30 years) I was astounded by the quality of season one.
Simon Oakland in particular was brilliant as an WW 2 vet, it might have been the best thing he ever did.
Ivan, you mentioned James Shigeta, for my money he was one of the top character actors. When he was on a Burkes Law, whose every episode teamed with
great old actors trying to out ham each other, he stole the show. That's another reason to appreciate 5-0, all the great guest stars, big and not so big.

Yes, enjoyed this one.
Creep is right.
Yesterday was "Up Tight". Wasn't my favourite.
Had "Johnnie Wells" in it though.

Re: Hawaii Five-O: Any Fans?
Again, don't know who Johnny Wells is but yes that's John McLiam!
Yeah it's an episode that I initially didn't care for but it's kinda grown on me. I don't care for the whole hippie drug culture thing (though I do love that late 60's time capsule) but there's something unique about all those psychedelic effects when they're "hopped to the gills with speed" (do they say that in this episode?) and it's certainly the only time on this show that we'll see something like that. So it's kinda unique and weird at the same time. But it drives the point home about how dangerous this was, especially back in the day. I do love the cliff scenes at the beginning and the end along Kalanianaole Hwy.

Do I have to stop my Hawaii Five-0 until you pick up your Magnum viewing?

Johnny Wells was lobbing a softball pitch to Ivan compared to Leon Platt.

That was a great scene with the baseball card though.
