Original Theme
Hello there. I know this has been covered, but is there any place one can purchase or download the original opening theme from the pilot episodes?
Re: Original Theme
You might check the audio files on this site, James has put together an amazing collection of just about anything Magnum related you can think of!
Other than that, it is on the original soundtrack of the DVD's I bought, but as individual season packages, NOT the entire series package that has been released recently.
Thought I read where somebody said on the complete series discs, they have replaced the original theme with the one adopted later on, that most everybody associates with the show.
Don't quote me, but it seems like the original theme was used on the first season discs I bought individually, up until about the third episode, but don't recall for certain at the moment.
Hope this helps a little.

Re: Original Theme
It's been a while since I watched the first season, but I think I remember hearing what the "new" theme was based on toward the end of one of the episodes during a chase scene. Won't swear to it, but it might have been "Ugliest Dog in Hawaii". In the background music you can hear it. It's not the full on new theme, like I said, just the basic riffs that it's based on.
(Edit to add)..Ok, just checked the episode roster on the main page, and as I should have known, James has already covered it!
It confirms that it was indeed "The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii" where you first hear remnants of and according to what's posted, the entire "new" theme, played during the end credits. Guess I should have checked before I posted the above! Oh well, result is the same either way.
Geeeez........just can't get nothin' over on ole J.J. !!!

Re: Original Theme
Thanks guys. You're too kind.
I would say if you are looking for the original theme the best one is the extended version heard in the pilot.
