Horizontally Striped Baseball Caps...

#1 Post by TSMIII »

In episode 2.15, T.C. wears a horizontally striped NY Yankees Baseball cap, I think I also recall Magnum wearing a similarly striped cap, but for the Tigers. I am unable to find one anywhere and my Google searches for images have been fruitless....That said, can anyone help me out as to what these were worn for, where, when? Also, are they still available? I looked on the Tiger's memorabilia website and they have most of the other Tiger's style caps available, but not a horizontally striped one....I am entirely unable to find a NY Yankees striped cap either. I enjoy both. Sorry to be so long winded, I just figured that I should explain the issue in depth, and my position upon it....

The whole point of this post; can anyone help me to find one of these horizontally striped caps? Thanks!

In the mid 70's with the American Bicentenial approaching, many MLB teams began wearing these style of caps. They were modeled on caps from the early years of the major leagues. In fact, the National league dates back to 1876 the year of America's centenial. Teams who wore them did this for perhaps a year or two then switched back, but the Pittsburgh Pirates kept them until the mid 80's. That being said, I don't recall either the Yankees or Tigers oficially adopting this style. It was much more popular in the NL. Sorry to say I have no info on how to acquire either. Good luck!

All I can say is it's a good thing those went out of style. Whoa. And it reminds you too much of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Unsightly.

I remember when those came out and thought they were ugly back then. Luckily they didn't last long.
