As you may have noticed in looking through the episode page, the generator scene from The Kona Winds you mentioned is not shot in the garage wing of the main house. It was shot in the garage that is attached to the back side of the gatehouse. As far as I know, this is the only time this part of the grounds was used. The small shed structure at the end of the main house garage wing was used in this episode, in the scene with Higgins preparing for the storm. It shows the interior of the shed as a laundry room. In fact, the set decorator, Rick Romer, recalled having to buy a washer and dryer for one episode. Though he couldn't remember which one, this seems to be it.

The actress who plays the pregnant woman is named Lori Lethin and she's an online friend of mine. I contacted her because she's been in a lot of horror movies and I wanted to interview her. I asked a brief question about being on Magnum and she said being in Hawaii was fun and she had a great time making the episode.
She's just recently graduated with a PhD in Psychology and is interning right now. She's pretty amazing.
I like this episode a lot. Aside from Lethin, Sondra Currie is also a B movie queen I quite adore. She's cute in this. And of course the Doohan (sp?) was always a treat!

In 'Kona Winds' (just checked, but there's no screen shot of it on MM), isn't the shed that TM goes to restore the power at on the main house, just around the corner from the walk through archway where TM always goes through to supposedly get to the guest house? It's been a while since I saw this episode, but I thought that was the location - ie. same place TM & Higgins went with the wheelbarrow when he was getting fertiliser?
I didn't think the shed with the power transformer was in the gate house?

There are a couple of clues to be seen in that picture. First the column to the right has no base moulding or other trim as are present on the garage wing connected to the main house. Also, the window at the upper-left is glazed rather than an open vent with the triangle patterned grill that can be seen in many shots of the garage wing. Another thread on this forum shows a picture with the street side of the gatehouse garage and it has these kind of windows, not vents.
The actual scene itself also shows Higgins approach the area and it seems not to be behind the garage wing. It does lead you to believe they are in that area, though. Of course, the guest house is also implied to be back there behind the garage wing as well!

Pretty good episode, some complaints though
I rate the episode as pretty good. The funny thing I just could not get past is that after the hoodlums leave the first time, Magnum, the great security specialist doesn't bother to lock the doors and secure the grounds? Preposterous!, as Higgins might declare...
I would have surely (or have written for Magnum to perform I should say) locked all the doors, obtained firearms (maybe a shotgun and not the Walther PPK) etc...perhaps done some surveillance on the fleeing intruders?
I did enjoy the surprise that the lady was having twins, perhaps the only part of the story that really surprised me, caught me off guard in a moment of comic relief. Also surprising, the whole convicts-break-in-after-having-escaped-from-jail-in-a-hurricane, lady having a baby miniplot in an episode where someone is trying to kill Robin Masters!
I agree with JJ that the potential for this episode to be greater was there, had a bit more attention been paid to the plot. Still, pretty good episode, but dammit Magnum, lock the door when the convicts leave so Higgins doesn't get his melon blown off! I don't know how they can expect Magnum to be so relaxed during a home invasion with Robin in the estate, I hate to say I believe the outcome would have been a tad less savory in real life...

As many probably already know, and/or have stated, this episode is "Magnum's" version of the 1948 Bogie and Bacall classic "Key Largo". I love Bogie (Humphrey Bogart) and Bacall (Lauren Bacall) movies...but out of all 4 of them, "Key Largo" is my least favorite. Probably because practically the whole movie took place inside this big old house during a hurricane. In my opinion, it eventually became boring.
The "Magnum" episode "Big Blow" to me was no different. Most of the episode took place inside Robin's Nest, and had everyone holed up because of a hurricane. I become bored with it after a while, and lose interest.
To me, a lot of the plotlines didn't go together well, either, and it all seemed "choppy". 
I also thought the idea that throughout all this wild storm smashing out windows, pregnant women screaming their heads off, drunk women ranting and raving, and shotgun blasts/gun fire, supposedly Robin Masters is upstairs the whole time and doesn't come down to check or see what the heck is happening?

Much to my regret, I must believe that Higgy is not Robin.
One could argue that Thomas didn't know what Robin looked like and an imposter was upstairs in the bedroom. But, the smoking gun is that Candice recognizes him when she goes up there to kill him, and their dialogue is proof they know each other from, what was it?, 1957?
Were it not for this episode, we'd still be up in the air about the Higgy-Robin situation.
