Revell Magnum P.I. Model Kits

#1 Post by zebra3 »

Does anyone have the model kits that revell made back in the 80's? I want to acquire them and I thought some photo sharing would be nice. From what I've seen of the Ferrari kit, it's already painted red.

I had the Ferrari 308 GTS model maybe 20 years ago. Sorry, but it's long gone. It was average in terms of models, I thought. The body was molded in red, but I painted it anyway. It made it look nicer painted. Ironically, I never had TC's VW vanagon model, and now I have a 22 year old camper version of the van, a dove blue metallic westfalia.

I have all three Revell MPI kits (Ferrari, TC's Chopper, & the Vanagon), however I have never built the models. I actually have several other kits from the 80's as well (Dukes, Airwolf, Knight Rider, A-team, etc). All my kits are new-in-box/factory sealed and I have had them for many years. Since I have had them so long I just consider them collectables now and will probably never open the boxes.

Zebra - I do actually have a second Revell MPI Ferrari kit (also still factory sealed) that I would part with for a reasonable price. The box is not 100% mint (has some sun fading on one end from years on a shelf), so it would be a candidate to be opened and enjoyed (you would at least know your getting all the parts). If you are interested send me a PM. I also see them on ebay somewhat regularly, at least the ferrari kit (chopper and vanagon are rarer).

Yeah I have an eBay account so I get emails whenever a new item comes up for auction. It's never the chopper or vanagon. Actually I have seen the vanagon once and it was about $80 USD plus shipping which is about $10. The chopper I have never seen on there or out of the box. I wonder how many parts it has, as I've never build a model helicopter before.

Hi Paulthepiper,
I have never seen these MPI models. Do they come with a Thomas Magnum driver? I had no idea these various kits existed. You never know, Revell might reissue them.
Just a few years ago they issued a Route 66 Corvette with Tod(Martin Milner) and Buz(George Maharis) in the seats. It came assembled. In silver of course, the
Corvettes used on the series were not red as everyone assumed but initially beige and then silver as those colors filmed better in black and white.

I have one of the Ferrari that I bought on ebay a few years ago. I paid around $15 including the shipping. The box was opened, but the bags of parts are still sealed. The body is indeed red. I don't know when I'll ever get it put together............

Is it Magnum branded or a standard Ferrari 308 kit?
