Ya gotta love eBay! The toy cannon came from there (I'm still working on how to get a better shot/explosion out of the cannon without blowing it up in my face! Larry says some gunpowder in it should work -- he says he'll break open a bullet we have to get the gunpowder. I think I don't want to be there when he does THAT! I'm not sure I want to be there when he loads it in the cannon and lights it! He'll have to do two bullets, though -- one to test and if that works, then one to film -- and Cecil B. DeMille thought HE directed major productions!), along with the rubber chicken that was actually a keyring. Now who would WANT a floppy rubber chicken keyring is more amazing to me than the fact that one is made at all -- and was available just when I was looking for it. That's one trick in looking for miniature or small versions of something -- keyrings!

I really wanted the doll's legs in the bikini clip to be moving, but that would have a required a third person (one to film, one to hold the dolls, and another to wiggle the legs), and I thought Larry was quite gracious enough to go in the pool with me and hold the doll while I filmed. It would have been TOO embarrassing to ask someone else to go underwater and wiggle the doll's legs. :? :P

But I'll have more clips when I acquire the heli and get it painted, plus a few more props (camera, ball glove -- this weekend I made a baseball hat [now just have to figure a way to get a "D" for "Detroit" and/or "DaNang" on the front of it] and the headsets for the heli shots). If you're interested, I'll post some pictures of the baseball hat and earphones/mike heli headsets this evening when I get home.

Stay tuned!

Miss Q,

Thank you! But, no, this has NOTHING to do with my job. I wish I could be paid to have fun like this. But I think I'm just a big child who delights in entertaining herself, and I get an extra kick out of it when I have entertained someone else too! Oh. Maybe that just means I'm a show-off . . . .

Well done Golf. It was all great, but where did you get that little rubber chicken? Maybe James can take some of the individual shots and add them to the avatar gallery. I think a shot of Magnum G.I. running through the jungle, Higgins holding the little rubber chicken, or MGI teaching Ms. Jones how to snorkel would all be popular additions to the avatar gallery. Keep up the good work.
The answer is obvious, old man. Logic is irrelevant. It's simply Tropical Madness. (J.Q. Higgins)

IslandHopper Nice catch on the snorkel girl name. Interesting how she was simply referred to as Miss Jones. Of course we all know of the later recurring character Ms. Jones from the hall of records.

IH,

Explanation of the acquisition of the rubber chicken is three posts above your question.

If James wants to use any of these as avatars, it'd probably be better to use a still picture instead of trying to get a snap from the video, since the video is so blurry. There are still pictures of everyone but Ms. Jones on the roamingmagnumgi blog (to which I've added a link so anyone can "subscribe" to new posts via email notification, if they want to track when there is a new post). Those stills would probably be better for him to use, if he wants them.

I noticed over the last few days in watching more of the repeats of Seasons 1-3 on Sleuth that Rick usually wears a gold chain around his neck, so I will be adding that to his "persona," and that little touch will be in pictures from now on. I also noticed even when he was wearing a short-sleeved shirt, the shirt frequently had a while collar and sleeve trim, so I'm going to be making him a short-sleeved blue shirt with white trim.

In addition, yesterday on eBay I got a ball and glove for TC for the softball clip. Yep, another keyring (from the Texas Rangers[!!?]), with a glove, ball, and bat (disproportionate size, but I don't need it).

TC's Softball Equipment

I got a couple of GI Joe cameras, but they're lousy for our purposes, so now I'm trying to get

this one

because it'll work for both "Mr. Alex" and TM in the helicopter with TC. Unfotunately, the freaking camera is in Hong Kong, so gosh knows when I'll get it, even if I win it. Oh, well, I haven't gotten the helicopter yet either, so it could be WEEKS before I come anywhere close to getting this bleeping video finished. sigh . . . . .

Ya think?

I've been experimenting with Elmo Higgins as an avatar. How does he look?

I noticed that right off the bat as I thought it unusual that her name was Miss Jones. Not to be stereotypical, but she is asian, and most likely not married since Magnum is up-close and personal while teaching her how to snorkel. I guess he prefers the "hands-on" approach.

That looks great Shermy. A perfect candidate for the avatar gallery.

WOW, guys! Thanks! That really makes me feel good about all the effort put into it. EVERYONE has been some complimentary! I tried hard, I really did. Larry (the skeptic, who was still tolerant enough to HOLD MGI in the swimming pool snorkel clip!)) says snootily, "Some people are easily amused." But what does he know? He's not the kind of FAN we are and doesn't know the subtleties of these kinds of things. It was REALLY fun assembling all the props and video'ing them and then getting them edited in order.

But remember: I still have at least another half to go -- all the TC and Rick shots, plus other scenery and action shots. I GOTTA get that bleeping Ultimate Soldier AH-6 to paint to be TC's heli. Plus I gotta make a lot of outfits for the boys.

Check the

Roaming Magnum GI

site for the picture of TC in his hat looking at the shell casing shown in conjunction with the real picture.

And the first thing you will see is MGI imitating the Travelocity Roaming Gnome in a couple of shots that WERE LARRY'S IDEA!

It'll be a few more days (or weeks) before I get all the props I need. But, believe me, you guys will be the first to see the complete intro when I get it done!

Thanks for the kind words to give me the encouragement to continue in this effort. I'm having fun doing it -- I'm just glad you're all having fun watching the production develop!

Hey golf, your Magnum G.I. work & video has caused me to look at my kids' toys in a different light. When I'm playing with my kids, I now find myself inspecting the bizillion action figures and "little people" we have spread out throughout the house, looking for ones that could tie-in with MPI! LOL! I find myself thinking, "Hey, that looks like Rick", or "Hmm, kinda looks like Higgins"! Hehe. :)

If you want to "spice up" your video a bit, see if you can work this shot in from the Season One title sequence:

Image

Now that would be fun to do! Blow some stuff up, baby! (In a controlled setting of course) ;)
