I think it's pretty cool the estate still exits in pretty much the same form as it did so many years ago now. That is all thanks to Mrs. Anderson's ownership - which long predates Magnum PI. Someone recently posted a link that allows you to access the property tax assessments - I think it was Pahonu... The bird's eye view of the property and the surrounding waterfront properties shows the Anderson estate as being an anomaly because it hasn't been subdivided. I feel privileged to have visited the place while it still looks the way it does. And while I wasn't able to see much, I think the mystery keeps it more interesting.

Overall, Mrs. Anderson owns a property that we all are fascinated by. A recent photo posted by someone showed her out on the grounds trimming and pruning as best she can. It reminded me of my grandmother. As far as I'm concerned, she deserves nothing but respect -especially since I know virtually nothing about her.

My sister is visiting Hawaii and was kind enough to go the beach for a picture. It was during high tide, but she fought her way through (she is a great sister!) and gave me the play by play as she went to the gate and around the back (and sent more photos).

It was really hard to just sit here in Wisconsin. She invited me along (and had a discounted ticket) but my job is in full swing and with a large family to feed I couldn't drop everything to go (but the question is what will I be thinking in 20 years if I never get

Aloha! Am presently on Maui, however about three weeks ago while on Oahu, passed by the Estate, so thought I'd give this thread an update.

The beach at the Estate was deffo dredged, however sand has already started building up again (against the wall), in two places. The tidal pool is now more like a paddling pool and its unfathomable to me just why this whole exercise took place. I could understand if the removal of sand was due to structural problems with the wall, but why fill up the tidal pool with sand?

As is usually the case when I have been at the Estate, the beach was deserted. At one point I watched as a lone diver just about walked his way through to the gap in the wall of the tidal pool, before disappearing in the ocean. That shows how shallow the pool really is. Funny but last week on the television here, I watched the Magnum episode where a plane crashes into the tidal pool. Lots of good shots of how the beach and tidal pool used to look like in Magnums day.

The Estate itself looks the same as it did last year....extremely sad, with no visual improvements at all. Still the old tarp hanging from the second floor, window boarded up and a chimney is crumbling. The strange blue paint on the boathouse has never been completed and one has to wonder just what that exercise was all about? Know I have expressed these thoughts before, but how can such a place be left to deterioate?

Upkeep costs a lot of money. Sometimes a person can be cash poor and land rich, so to speak. Sure the estate is worth and I'm sure she's considered a "wealthy" woman but maintenance is really expensive. I can understand why she might not be able to keep the place in pristine condition.

I have a hard time with my own "estate." ha!

I would love it if she would let the film crews (Hawaii 5-0?) back on to the Estate to give the ol' place the once over. Of course, things are different now with the internet as an information site as to just where The Estate is located and the place might be over run with fans with that knowledge. The first time I was on Oahu in 1987 I'll bet I drove right by the location at least twice having no idea it was even there and I'm betting they were probably even filming there when I drove by............But then again, how many of us have made the spiritual trek to Magnum Mecca and been surprised when we made it to the tidal pool and we were the only ones there...............

Problem is, film crews aren't interested in renovating a place so they can shoot there. They'd be scouting for something already in ship-shape.

I have been reading your comments about the tidal pool and think it's a shame that she would damage it (my opinion) in the way she has. My husband and I will be travelling to Hawaii in March 2012 (our first trip) and the tidal pool was one of the locations we really wanted to see. We are still going to see it but the photos we take, will not look like the screensaver I have on the computer.

I wonder how you'd feel if fans would be lurking around your house and property for more than 30 years.

As much as I'd love to visit the place when I am able to make it to Hawaii, I can understand, that this is pretty annoying for the owner of the site.
I know, that it's a public beach but I am also sure, that many people who are looking for the site, are not very sensible. Imagine, if your house is regulraly trafficed by all kind of tourist groups and people constantly shooting pics over the fence.

Additionally, older people tend to not invest too much into their homes and that's regardless to any political orientation

I for my part am pretty happy, that the estate has not changed hands in the past. Who knows, what a new owner may have done with it but I am sure, that there won't be much left now.

Well said Bond . . . Mr. Fearing Pangborn should start acting like the knight that "Sir" in his name is associated with . . . if I owned a house associated with, say Dallas, and was not a big fan of the show, I would be frustrated by the constant attention.
