Any interest in a "group purchase" on team rings?

For all non-episode specific topics about the show, including MPI-related "tie-ins"

Any interest in a "group purchase" on team rings?

#1 Post by Coops »

Reading another thread I noticed that a lot of us were interested in acquiring team rings. You may or may not know there is a jeweller that creates these rings to damn near perfect detail. If we could get a group of people together for a "group purchase", meaning that possibly the cost to us per ring could be reduced, how many of you would be interested? Maybe like a limited edition "Magnum Mania" ring run?

How much would you be willing to spend? And how soon could you do it?

I want a ring in the worst possible way.

So, what say you?

Can you get a price quote from him ? That way we could get a better idea of who might be intrested.

That could depend entirely on how many people are interested in a group purchase and what price range they could afford. Obviously not everyone could afford rings in the same range so I'll need an idea of how many people are interested, how many can afford to send in a deposit on good faith, and how many REALLY want a team ring!

Ok, I just sent an email enquiring about a possible group purchase on team rings. I'll keep you posted via this thread.

I'd be interested, but fair warning, with the price of gold nowadays, it's going to be an uphill battle to get any real discount. If you're looking at the rings from "A lighter side" which are by far the best I've seen, they ran around $500 a few years back. I suspect the price of gold had made them a lot higher by now.

Here is another guy who sells them...he sells rings from original mold that was used in the series. He is a great guy and sells great products. Can't go wrong.

That's certainly another option although from what I can tell I don't think his rings are as nice as the other guy's rings.

If you check out the photos in my thread My Magnum World, the team ring that in those photos are actually the original mold ring. The photo on his website doesn't do the ring justice. It may not be as crisp as the lighter side, but it's more authentic, as it's actaully from Universal Studios's screen used mold, plus a buddy of mine bought one from the lighter side and they are actually a little bit bigger than the originals. I believe Larry's ring may have been from the lighter side in LAS VEGAS, when he and Roger made a guest appearance, however Larry and Robbie are actually pretty close friends now and Robbie has made a few custom pieces for Larry which is pretty cool.

Well, I got an email back from the jeweler and there is no substantial discount for a group purchase so, nevermind.

I'm going to order mine right now though.

I bought mine from A Lighter Side in 2000...at the time John was making two sizes...I bought the smaller one...I've been told by people who were afraid that his rings are too big that it looks right...Here I am with my brother on Maui last year...

I don't think you can go wrong with The Lighter Side rings, but then again, it's the only one I have experience with.

I have been trading emails with both Robbie and the Lighter Side and am debating a ring purchase as well. In my opinion Robbies prices are a bit out of line. Also, it appears he no longer offers rings made from the universal mold. The rings he sells are his "faithful reproductions" and not the original design. They look nice, but pricey. Lighter side is about $150 cheaper and also a nice ring. Just depends on which design you like best - I havent made up my mind yet. I have had a sterling silver version of the ring for quite a while and would really like to upgrade to the gold version.

LOL people, this thread is from January! Read the whole thing!

Long story short, I couldn't get a group discount.
