Error in Wikipedia entry?

#1 Post by Coops »

What's wrong with this Wikipedia entry?
Magnum seemingly lives a dream (but, in fact a pseudo-dream lifestyle): he comes and goes as he pleases, works only when he wants to, has the almost unlimited use of a Ferrari 308 GTS as well as many other of Robin Masters’ luxuries. He keeps a mini-fridge with a seemingly endless supply of Old Dusseldorf Beer, is seemingly surrounded by countless beautiful women (who are often his clients or victims in the cases he solves), and enjoys adventures with his two buddies, both former U.S. Marines he served with in VM-02 (a Marine Observation Squadron operating in Bắc Thái Tỉnh, Vietnam) during the Vietnam War.

Hmmmm...?

Ok, TM was in the Navy, that much I know. Were Rick and T.C. not in the marines?

Yep. I went in there and made the corrections. We all should storm the Wikipedia entry and make it 100% correct and look really cool.

Okay, at the risk of sounding like a complete moron, doesn't Wikipedia require contributors to: (1) register and (2) have some minimal level of expertise to post or correct an article?

Not that Coops or James or ..........(fill in the name of most M-M members) doesn't have the knowledge. Just wondering.

No, anyone can edit it. Some subjects or articles require getting an account to edit but most articles don't.

Who knew? I tried to correct an article on my grad school advisor once and couldn't. At least not without (I thought) jumping through a lot of hoops.

Just think, a new way to squander my time

Speaking of Wikipedia, I was just reading the Higgins page and came across something very interesting:
Wikipedia wrote:Higgins is loosely based on James Bond creator Ian Fleming:

- Both were born into distinguished families of Scottish descent
- Both left Sandhurst, the British officers academy, before graduation
- Both served in the British military during World War II with careers focused on intelligence and special operations
- Both retired to tropical estates after retiring from military service
- Both (if rumors are to be believed) wrote a series of lurid adventure novels loosely based on their own experiences

In addition, in 1946 Higgins refused a direct order to fire on Jewish refugees trying to reach Palestine. This episode ("Torah, Torah, Torah" from season 5) resembles an experience of Patrick Dalzel-Job, reportedly one of the inspirations for James Bond, who refused an order to stop evacuation of Norwegian civilians as that country was being overtaken by the German army near the beginning of WWII.
In the words of Johnny Carson, "I did not know that"!

And thusly this is PRECISELY why I've always thought that Higgins is Robin Masters. Ian Fleming = Robin Masters = Higgins.
