Hi Coops!
I agree that there is only one Tom Selleck, but I don't think anyone here asked for another TS, just a better choice for the role of Magnum. The casting of Jay Hernandez is so incredibly absurd to me, but I can partially understand why Lenkov chose him... from what I've read online and especially observed on social media, the demographic of his fan base is ~16-24 year old females and they absolutely love the guy.
I've been wondering about this factor, though.... SO many times on MM I've heard you guys say, in different ways, that Magnum is someone you wanted to "be". I find it very hard to believe that Lenkov is going to even come close to capturing that feeling for his new male audience with Hernandez as Magnum... but I guess time will tell.
Spot on as usual, RG....Tom Selleck as Thomas Magnum is indeed the image so many of us men wanted to be (much like James Bond). Heck, how many of us started wearing Hawaiian shirts because he looked so damn good in them and not like the image of some of us boomers had of our fathers at the backyard barbecues not looking so good As for Jay Hernandez and the 16 to 24 year old females loving him, watch Bad Moms, he is charming in that film and dog gone if he doesn't bed Mila Kunis, whom was my long time choice as Lily in any original cast remake of Magnum, PI..............
Today at lunch I finished s01e14 ("Adelaide"), and a thought occurred to me. Something has bothered me about the trailer since the first time I saw it, and I finally figured out what it was: the trailer for the remake starts with Magnum telling what seems to be a tall tale (telling the story of Felix Baumgartner's Stratos jump/fall). In the series, Higgins told stories all the time, and we never really know if they were real -- but this Stratos-like jump seems to be a tall tale. Magnum and the other characters were always pretty well grounded in the original, and that's one of the things I liked about it -- and it concerns me that they might be changing that. Of course, that part might just be for the trailer, but I think it isn't. I think this is part of the new direction.

Hi eagle!
Yeah... a few have mentioned what you're referring to as a "tall tale"... I specifically said I think it's scenes from Robin Masters' novel. Magnum says "When I'm not inspiring novels by best selling author Robin Masters, I'm his live-in security consultant ..." But any way you slice it, I agree... a new direction indeed.

Excellent point, and one that irked me from the time I heard TM would be the inspiration for a Masters' novel. Thinking back to what Tom Selleck said very early in his Magnum role, he didn't want Magnum to be the character that was all glitz, the one who always got the gal, and always won the fight. Paraphrasing here, but you get my point. What we have here is the guy TS described, and NOT Magnum at all
Guys, I think we all need to keep an open mind on this reboot, we will never have the Magnum we grew up with it was one of the greatest shows ever. TS was awesome and still is and the show taught me a lot about true friendship and having fun with life but also how to be serious too. I remember watching it from the start, I was in the sixth grade and watched it religiously til the finale, I still enjoy the show and watch my dvds frequently. But I will watch the reboot and understand it will never be the Magnum of my youth but times change and this is what tv shows have become. I just want a god show and to pay homage to the original for all of us old timers, but if they need to change up a couple things I’m ok with it and I’m looking forward to seeing it. I didn’t want a remake of Hawaii 5-0 but was pleasantly surprised that it was decent, not as good as the original but good to watch, so please guys just give it a chance we may end up liking it.
You cats are brutal... I would bet I'm the only one from the board that's getting an all-expense-paid trip to Waikiki to view the premier on Sunsets on the Beach..Petey and I have struck up a great friendship

Suuuuuuuuuuure, Sam... you keep believing that. Did you fall out of your rocking chair and hit your head on your gramophone or something? (Just getting you back for calling me "Rubber Girl")
I am probably an idiot and is a very old fan. But how the hell could you see this positive in any way? This is not Magnum P I at all. But some of you seem to like this, and your kids aswell ha, surprise. How can you be fooled? John Hillerman just died, and they just demolished Anderson estate.
And now creating another silly reboot a la 2018. I am feeling raped.

I’m actually super surprised there’s so many posters receptive (or at least open) to it.
To each their own I guess.
Just find it interesting because I’m still really peeved about it.
Knocking my rubber chicken or my sloppy habits is within the rules, but you're attacking my character. I would like to think you don't mean that.

I'm with Sam. This is brutal. Yikes! I feel compelled to say that I am legitimately 6-7 tall and still think this is BRUTAL!!!!!!
