What original series script would you want to see redone?
Five-O guys will know better about this than me... I think I remember several seasons ago the new Five-O producers decided to film a script from the original series just as it was. Anyway, gets me to think of the Magnum reboot, naturally, and wondering what script would be the best to do from the original series.

When it comes to Hawaii Five-O original scripts, I thought the remake of Hook Man, was incredible. As to the Magnum reboot, I would want to see Unfinished Business, and Did You See the Sunrise? Both of these were very high intensity episodes, showing what Magnum was capable of. Death and Taxes, is another episode I'd like to see.

From Peter Lenkov at TCA yesterday:
Lenkov admitted they don’t yet have plans to retell any specific stories in the reboot of “Magnum PI” the way they have with “Hawaii Five-O”; however, he is keeping alive the mythology surrounding Ivan (Bo Svenson) from the original series’ third season episode “Did You See The Sun Rise?”

I cannot imagine any of the light-hearted episodes being re-enacted. I project this re-boot to be much more high tech with a heck of a lot more special effects. The light-hearted episodes like Beauty Knows No Pain or The Elmo Ziller Story is one of the things that made Magnum, PI what it was. Ahh...for the good old days!!!!

I worry about that too. I WANT to see those goofy kind of episodes. They were a departure from some of the heaviness of other ones, yet didn't seem out of place at all. It seems nowadays everyone has to be some uber macho Rambo-style guy on TV.

I hope the first episode of the reboot is a remake of "Limbo."

Actually, the very first first run Magnum, pi I watched on CBS was Luther Gillis: File #521 and I was hooked for life. I am pretty sure Lenkov will add some light-hearted recuring characters as he does on Hawaii 5-0.....(Perhaps Manetti?)

I too would like to see both light hearted, and Higgins centric episodes. My question is, how can the re-boot find the character depth of the new Higgins, when she isn't Sergeant Major Higgins, serving worldwide in every conflict World War 2 and post. In my military service, I had the pleasure of working with the British Army numerous times, and regularly worked with the British Army Liaison with the U.S. Army Engineer School. When first introduced, I was a 1st LT, and he was a Major. He had myself, and my supervisor over to his Quarters for dinner, and a case of Bass Ale. He wasn't much of a drinker, and being polite guests, we eliminated his Bass Ale problem. It would have been terrible to be rude to both he and his wife Pitt. Thankfully, I was walking back to the Visiting Officers Quarters (VOQs).
He, like the Higgins, had been nearly everywhere, and lived to tell about it. As time passed, I was promoted to Captain, and he to LTC. I had taken my supervisor's job, and dealt with the LTC regularly. He was a true gentleman, enjoying the comradery of my small team, to include the danger we often found ourselves in. He often remarked that I wasn't being paid enough for what I was doing, but I always said, I wasn't there for the money. He was a representative of the Brits that I had the pleasure of working with.
But returning to the new Higgins, while we know that she is a product of the British Intelligence Services, does she have the experience of SGM Higgins? In my later years of governmental service, I did get to know a few "retired" British Intel officers. I use the term retired lightly, as they all told me, the British government always had a string on them, often pulling them back into service for a mission here or there. One, after retirement, had become a news photographer. He often traveled to world hotspots, at a moments notice. Hopefully, the re-boot writers will take this into account, doing research into what they're writing about, or better yet sitting down and speaking with a few people who were actually in the intelligence field.

It can't. That's why they should have just made a new show. The character basis for the original is totally different. They're just using the same names.Rands wrote:I too would like to see both light hearted, and Higgins centric episodes. She can't possibly, she does not have the years. She should have been allowed to be her own character. But returning to the new Higgins, while we know that she is a product of the British Intelligence Services, does she have the experience of SGM Higgins?
This has MI6 written all over it. $10 says that dude never retired. In my later years of governmental service, I did get to know a few "retired" British Intel officers. The episode the original poster is referring to is Hookman, one of the very best episodes of the original Five-O. It was redone as S03E15 of the H50 reboot, and despite it being based on the original story with quite a few similarities and even locations, it turned into a big mess because of an idiotic anti-gun rant by the new Danno.

Because this year is the 50th anniversary of the original H50, the first episode of the reboot's upcoming season nine will be a remake (so to speak) of the original series' pilot episode which was a 2-hour movie called "Cocoon" (see http://fiveohomepage.com/5-0pilot.htm), though I think the new show will only be one hour long.

Mr. Mike, I agree with your comments on Danno's antigun rant in Hookman. My thoughts on H-50 Hookman, were based on the guests, namely Peter Weller and Charlie Murphy. Peter Weller's performance was marvelous as both Director and Actor. And, Charlie Murphy made a very convincing drug dealer. I believe that Hookman was Charlie's last performance before succumbing to leukemia. I have enjoyed the performances of both of these actors, beginning with Weller's portrayal in Robocop. I also found Charlie Murphy's "True Hollywood Stories" hilarious. Charlie was also a six year Navy veteran, witnessing the Beirut Barracks bombing from his ship. In my opinion, these gentlemen made Hookman a success.

'I still remember the episode Cocoon, and try and watch whenever it comes around in the rerun rotation, what an amazing start to a great series! It will be interesting to see what Lenkov does with the reboot of the episode.....Mr. Mike wrote:The episode the original poster is referring to is Hookman, one of the very best episodes of the original Five-O.
